Adding Visualizers and Working with Them

Visualizers can be used to display a user-defined data slice of the built model in various formats. Various visualizer types can be used to create highly informative reports, execute detailed data analysis, and discover hidden patterns.

NOTE. If data is changed in data sources, data in all visualizers is automatically changed.

Operations with Visualizers

When working with information panels in the edit mode, the following operations are available depending on the visualizer type:

Visualizers can be added if there are free cells on the slide.

To add a visualizer to the working area:

Select visualizer type in the drop-down menu of the Insert button on the toolbar and click the slide cell.
Click the slide cell and select the visualizer type in the drop-down menu.

As a result, the selected visualizer is added to the working area:

Information panel objects are arranged automatically.

To place visualizers manually:

Resize visualizers.
Move visualizers.

To select a visualizer, click on it. The selected visualizer is outlined with a blue frame:

When a visualizer is selected, the popup settings panel is displayed:

The settings panel contains the actions:

Change visualizer type.
Set up synchronization y selection and by selected data.
Copy visualizer.
Duplicate visualizer.
Publish visualizer.
Delete visualizer.

To deselect the slide, click empty space in the working area.

To resize visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Hover the cursor on the visualizer border. The mouse cursor changes to the two-headed arrow.
Hold down the mouse button and resize the visualizer.

As a result, the selected visualizer is resized.

When working with information panels in the edit and view modes, one can expand visualizer to fit the entire slide working area to view data in details.

To expand the selected visualizer on top of the other visualizers:

Select the visualizer.
Select the Expand item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.

The selected visualizer is expanded.

NOTE. After the visualizer is expanded, it is exported using its original size.

To collapse the expanded visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Execute the operation:

Select the Collapse item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.
Press the ESC key.

The selected visualizer is restored to its original size.

To move a visualizer in the working area:

Select the visualizer.
Hover the cursor on the visualizer border. The mouse cursor changes to hand icon.

Hold down the main mouse button and move the visualizer to the required position in the working area.

NOTE. The slide area selected for visualizer placement should have the same size as the visualizer.

As a result, the selected visualizer is moved to the selected area.

To set a title for the selected visualizer:

Toggle the Show Title switch to active state in the Title group on the side panel. The switch is toggled to inactive state by default, and title is not shown.
Set up title.

As a result, the title is displayed for the visualizer.

To change visualizer title, follow the visualizer title setup steps described above or execute the following operations:

Click on the visualizer title.
Delete the existing title and enter a new one.
Press the ENTER key outside the visualizer title area.

As a result, the visualizer title is changed.

To select visualizer data element, click the required element. As a result, the visualizer and the data element are selected:

To deselect the data element, click on empty space of the visualizer area.

Changing of visualizer type is available for all visualizers, except text, image, and control. Changing of visualizer type is available for the Table visualizer if visualizer's data source is a data model or table data set.

To change visualizer type:

Select the visualizer.
Click the Visualizer Type button with icon of the selected visualizer on the popup settings panel.
Select the required visualizer type in the drop-down menu.

As a result, the selected visualizer type is changed.

Automatic refresh rebuilds a visualizer automatically on each change that affects displaying of visualizer. The mentioned changes are the following:

In the Information Panel tool:

Add or delete a field on the control panel for visualizer.
Change selection in a field using the dimensions panel or controls on slide during visualizer synchronization.
Change visualizer type.
Edit any visualizer setting on the settings panel.

NOTE. Changes in visualizer title show/hide setting are automatically displayed in a visualizer even if automatic refresh is disabled.

In the data model:

Edit/delete links between tables, which fields are used in a visualizer.
Delete the table, which fields are used in a visualizer.
Rename/hide fields that are used in a visualizer.
Edit/delete/rename calculated fields that are used in a visualizer.
Delete the data source, which table fields are used in a visualizer.
Set/edit/delete data model filter.

Automatic refresh of visualizer is enabled by default. To disable automatic refresh of visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Release the Automatic Refresh button on the popup settings panel.

As a result, automatic refresh of the selected visualizer is disabled.

If automatic refresh is enabled, after each visualizer change the Refresh button appears on the visualizer to rebuild it manually:

To enable automatic refresh, press the Automatic Refresh button on the popup settings panel.

Synchronization setup is available for all visualizers, except tables, text, and images.

The following synchronization options are available when working with visualizers:

Synchronization by Selection. It can be used to simultaneously manage selections of identical dimensions of several visualizers located on one or several slides.

Synchronization by Selected Data. It can be used to rebuild visualizers on the slide according to the selected data.

Working with clipboard is available for visualizers located on the same tab of the information panel.

To create an exact visualizer copy:

Select the visualizer.
Execute one of the operations:

Select the Copy item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+C.

As a result, the visualizer is copied to clipboard.

To paste the visualizer, click the slide cell and select the Paste from Clipboard item.

NOTE. Visualizers can be pasted from clipboard if there are free cells on the slide.

To create an exact visualizer copy:

Select the visualizer.
Execute one of the operations:

Select the Duplicate item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.
Press CTRL+D.

As a result, the exact copy of the selected visualizer is created.

NOTE. Visualizers can be duplicated if there are free cells on the slide.

To publish a visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Select the Publish item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.
Determine publication settings.

After executing the operations the visualizer is published to external applications.

To delete visualizer:

Select the visualizer.

NOTE. To delete several visualizers, hold down the CTRL key and select them.

Execute one of the operations:

Select the Delete item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.
Press the DELETE key.

After confirming the operation the selected visualizer is deleted.

To make it easier to select data when creating a table, use the SQL Filter dialog box.

To open the SQL Filter dialog box, select the SQL Filter item on the popup settings panel when working with the information panel in the edit mode.

NOTE. The SQL Filter item is displayed if table's data source is a data model.

Create a calculated expression in the formula area. One can use statements, arithmetic operations, functions, and characters in a formula. The following are used as operands:

Information panel parameters.
Data source fields of visualizer.
