Adding Visualizers and Working with Them

Visualizers can be used to display a user-defined data slice of the built model in various formats. Various visualizer types can be used to create highly informative reports, execute detailed data analysis, and discover non-obvious patterns. Available visualizers:

Table. It displays table data.

Chart. It displays data as graphs.

Indicator. It displays data using a marked scale.

Map. NOTE. If data is changed in data sources, data in all visualizers is automatically changed.

Operations with Visualizers

The following operations are available for all visualizers:

Add a visualizer

To add a visualizer to the working area:

Click the Add Visualizer button on the working area and select visualizer type in the drop-down list.
Click the empty space on the working area.

As a result, the selected visualizer is added to the working area:

Select data source

To select visualizer data source, use the Sources drop-down list in the upper part of the side panel.

Select visualizer

To select a visualizer, click on it. The selected visualizer is outlines with a blue frame:

When a visualizer is selected, a popup settings panel is displayed in the bottom right part of the window:

The settings panel contains the actions:

Change visualizer type.
Visualizer automatic refresh.
Set up synchronization by selection.
Duplicate visualizer.
Delete visualizer.

To deselect the slide, click empty space on the working area.

Resize visualizer

To resize visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Place the cursor inside the visualizer. The visualizer border displays rectangular resize markers:

Drag a marker to resize the visualizer.

NOTE. For proportional resize hold down the SHIFT key and drag one of the markers.

As a result, the selected visualizer is resized.

Move visualizer

To move a visualizer along the working area:

Select the visualizer.
Hover the cursor on the visualizer border. The visualizer will be outlined with a frame:

Hold down the main mouse button and move the visualizer to the required position on the working area.

As a result, the selected visualizer is moved.

Set visualizer title

To set visualizer title:

Click the title in the upper part of the visualizer.
Enter visualizer title.

As a result, the title is displayed for the visualizer.

If the visualizer has already got a title, it can be changed. To do this:

Click the old visualizer title.
Delete the old title and enter a new one.

As a result, the visualizer title is changed.

Select visualizer data element

To select visualizer data element, click the required element. As a result, the visualizer and the data element are selected:

To deselect the data element, click on empty space of the visualizer area.

Change visualizer type

To change visualizer type:

Select the visualizer.
Click the Change Type button with icon of the selected visualizer on the popup settings panel.
Select the icon of the required visualizer type in the drop-down list:

As a result, the selected visualizer type is changed.

Refresh visualizer

Automatic refresh rebuilds a visualizer automatically on each change that affects displaying of visualizer. The mentioned changes are the following:

In the Information Panel tool:

Add or delete a field on the side panel for visualizer.
Change selection in a field using the dimensions panel or controls on slide during visualizer synchronization.
Change visualizer type.
Edit any visualizer setting on the settings panel.

NOTE. Changes in visualizer title show/hide setting are automatically displayed in a visualizer even if automatic refresh is disabled.

In the Data Model tool:

Edit/delete link between the tables, which fields are used in visualizer.
Delete the table, which fields are used in visualizer.
Rename/hide the fields used in visualizer.
Edit/delete/rename the calculated fields used in visualizer.
Delete the data source, which table fields are used in visualizer.
Set/edit/delete data model filter.

Automatic refresh of visualizer is enabled by default. To disable automatic refresh of visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Release the Automatic Refresh button on the popup settings panel.

As a result, automatic refresh of the selected visualizer is disabled.

If automatic refresh is enabled, after each visualizer change the Refresh button appears on the visualizer to rebuild it manually:

To enable automatic refresh, press the Automatic Refresh button on the popup settings panel.

Set up synchronization by selection

Synchronization by selection can be used to simultaneously manage selection of identical dimensions in several visualizers located on the same slide.

To enable visualizer synchronization on the slide:

Select the visualizer.
Press the Synchronization button on the popup settings panel.

NOTE. The Synchronization button is available only for visualizers located on the slide.

As a result, dimension selections are synchronized for the selected visualizer located on the slide.

Along with synchronization by selection one can set up synchronization by selected data. For details about visualizer synchronization see the Synchronizing Visualizers on Slide article.

To disable synchronization mode, release the Synchronization button.

Duplicate visualizer

To create an exact visualizer copy:

Select the visualizer.
Execute one of the operations:

Select the Duplicate item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel.
Hold down the ALT key and drag the appeared visualizer frame.
Press CTRL+D.

As a result, the exact copy of the selected visualizer is created:

NOTE. When duplicating the visualizer located on the slide, its exact copy will be located on the slide too.

Delete visualizer

To delete visualizer:

Select the visualizer.
Select the Delete item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button on the popup settings panel or press the DELETE key.

After confirming the operation the selected visualizer is deleted.

NOTE. Apart from the specified operations, one can also export visualizers.
