Working with Controls

• Click on the element to invert the selection.

• Clicking the element while holding down the SHIFT key deselects all elements and selects elements (except for the collapsed ones), positioned between the focused element and the clicked one.

• Clicking while holding the CTRL key selects or deselects an element and all its child elements.

Select the required selection option in the context menu.

Choose the selection option on the Selection ribbon tab.

NOTE. The Selection ribbon tab is available on selecting the Selection group of tabs of the side panel.

NOTE. The feature is available only in the desktop application.

• Clicking the DOWN and UP key moves the focus.

• Clicking the RIGHT or LEFT keys expands or collapses the focused element hierarchy.

• Pressing the SPACE key inverts the selection. Pressing the SPACE key the user can hold down the SHIFT or CTRL key.

• Pressing the SPACE key while holding down the CTRL key inverts selection of an element and of all its child elements.

NOTE. Navigating elements using arrow keys in single-selection lists (fixed dimensions) automatically selects and focuses the elements.

To select or deselect a dimension element, click the required element on the tab with the dimension.

To select all dimension elements, open the dimension tab on the side panel and:

• Click the Select All button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• Select the Select All item in the context menu of the dimension element on the side panel.

• Select the Select All item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

After executing one of the actions all dimension elements are selected.

To select all dimension elements, by which there is data in the source:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Click the Select All with Data button on the Selection ribbon tab.

NOTE. The option is available in the desktop application if data source caching is enabled.

To deselect all dimension elements, open the dimension tab on the side panel and:

• Click the Deselect All button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• Select the Deselect All item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• Select the Deselect All item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

After executing one of the operations all dimension elements are deselected.

To select a dimension level:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select level in the drop-down menu:

• Of the Select Level button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• Of the Advanced Selection > Select Level item in the context menu of the dimension element on the side panel.

• Of the Advanced Selection > Select Level item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

After executing the operations the chosen dimension element is selected.

NOTE. Level selection is available for the dimensions that have levels.

To select all descendants:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select the Select Descendants by Level or Select All Descendants item:

To deselect all descendants:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select the Deselect Descendants item:

NOTE. The option is available only in the desktop application.

The user can copy and paste element selection between dimensions of a regular report, express report, or a time series database if these dimensions are based on the same data source.

To copy the selected dimension elements selection to the clipboard:

• Select the Copy item in the selection's context menu.

• Press CTRL+C or CTRL+INSERT.

After executing the command the chosen selection is copied to clipboard.

To paste the dimension element selection from the clipboard:

• Select the Paste item in the selection's context menu.

• Press CTRL+V or SHIFT+INSERT.

On executing the command the selection from the clipboard replaces the current selection in the dimension. To add more elements to the existing selection, hold down the CTRL key while executing the command.

NOTE. Dimension element selection can be pasted if the clipboard contains selection of the same dimension.

It is available to set multiple selection for the Value metric role.

To do multiple selection in fixed dimensions, go to the Selection side panel tab and select the dimension:

To aggregate fixed dimensions:

• In dashboard and regular report go to the Data tab in the Data side panel group.

• In express report go to the Data tab in the Source side panel group.

In the Aggregate Fixed Dimensions drop-down list select the aggregation method for data of fixed dimensions:

• No. Data is not aggregated.

• Sum. The summation is executed by selected elements in fixed dimensions.

• Minimum. The minimum value is displayed from selected elements in fixed dimensions.

• Maximum. The maximum value is displayed from selected elements in fixed dimensions.

• From Source Dimensions. Fixed dimension data is handled with the aggregation method specified in settings of data source.

When working with ADOMD cubes, the aggregation configured in appropriate ADOMD sources is used.

• From Source Facts. In fixed dimensions with full selection server aggregation is used according to the methods specified for source facts was set up for a data source. Source facts aggregation should be set up if a data source contains several records for one set which should be aggregated.

If the Aggregate Selected Elements Only checkbox is selected in cube dimension aggregation settings, and on the Facts Binding page the aggregation method is selected for facts, aggregation is calculated on server by selected elements according to the methods specified for cube facts. If parent element is selected, aggregation is executed only for its child elements. If parent element is selected without child elements, data is not aggregated into it. If the checkbox is deselected and multiple selection is used, aggregation is executed by the entire dimension, regardless of the selection. If parent element is selected, aggregation is executed by its child elements.

If the ODBC data source is selected as a table, in the standard cube wizard for this data source one can calculate client aggregation.

• Average. The average value is displayed by selected elements in fixed dimensions.

NOTE. When selecting any item in the list, except for None, the Select All Fixed button becomes active, when clicking on it, all items in fixed dimensions will be selected.

To create a dimension selection schema:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select the Create Schema by Selected Elements item in the drop-down menu of:

• The Selection Schema button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• The Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• The Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

The created selection schema will be applied to dimension elements.

NOTE. If a calculated element is in dimension, and alternative or custom hierarchy is set, selection schema cannot be created.

To apply dimension selection schema:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Choose selection schema in the drop-down menu of:

• The Selection Schema button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• The Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• The Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

To apply the selected schema on report opening, select the When Opening a Report checkbox, to apply the selected schema on rebuilding the dimension, select the When Rebuilding a Dimension checkbox. Both checkboxes can be selected at the same time, in this case, the schema will be applied on report opening and on dimension rebuilding.

To disable the selection schema, select the Reset item.

When the selection schema is applied, the icon appears on the dimension side panel.

NOTE. The option is available only in the desktop application.

To edit selection schema:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select the Edit item in the drop-down menu of:

• The Selection Schema button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• The Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• The Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

In the Selection Schema dialog box that opens add primitives of the selection schema, according to which elements are selected.

To create a group of dimension elements:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select the Create Group by Selected Elements item in the drop-down menu of:

• The Select Group button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

Elements that are included into the created group are selected in the dimension.

NOTE. If a calculated element is in dimension, alternative or custom hierarchy is set, a group of elements cannot be created.

To select a group of dimension elements:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select a group of elements in the drop-down menu of:

• The Select Group button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

Application of the Element Groups selection deselects all elements and selects the group.

The Reset item is identical to the Deselect All item.

NOTE. The option is available only in the desktop application.

To edit a group of elements:

1. Go to the dimension tab on the side panel.

2. Select the Edit item in the drop-down menu of:

• The Select Group button on the Selection ribbon tab.

• The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the dimension element's context menu on the side panel.

• The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the dimension menu on the side panel.

In the Groups of Elements dialog box that opens add primitives of a group of elements, according to which a set of elements will be created.
