Data Aggregation

Display versions is a separate set of aggregation parameters, which is used to quickly switch between and calculate data on viewing the cube.

The display version, for which aggregation parameters are set up, is selected in the Display Versions drop-down list.

NOTE. The Display Versions drop-down list is available only in the desktop application. In the web application, one can set up cube display versions on the Display Versions page.

By default, a cube has a single display version, name and identifier of which match the name and identifier of the cube itself. To create a new display version, click the Add button, to edit the existing display version, select it in the drop-down list and click the Edit button. After that the Display Versions dialog box opens:

The dialog box enables the user to determine name and unique identifier of the display version. The dialog box also contains the Hidden Display Version checkbox. If this checkbox is selected, the display version cannot be selected on working with the cube in the Analytical Queries (OLAP) tool.

The Set as Default button enables the user to choose the display version, which will be applied on opening the cube.

In the Cube Facts for which Aggregation is Performed drop-down list choose the fact(s), by which values aggregation is executed.

Data aggregation by the specified dictionary requires values stored in cube facts, therefore it is required to specify the facts, based on which aggregation is to be executed. An aggregation mechanism can be applied for several cube facts simultaneously as well as for each fact separately. In other words, one can determine a different aggregation method for each fact. If there is a multiple selection in the list, the same aggregation method is used for all selected facts. To aggregate data, the system uses the values from the selected fact by the specified dictionary. Aggregated data is presented in the same fact. If private aggregation settings are already determined for the selected facts, a warning message is displayed on closing the list.

The Cube Dimensions area is used to set up aggregation by required dimensions.

Originally, this area displays the list of elements corresponding to cube dimensions. The following buttons can be used to set up aggregation mechanism:

• Edit. Clicking the button opens a dialog box for setting up aggregation for the selected dimension. The button is available when a single element or elements of one dimension are selected in the tree of elements

• Delete. Clicking the button deletes settings of the selected levels (confirmation required).

• Change Aggregation Mechanism. The button is available only when calendar dimension is selected. Clicking the button replaces basic aggregation mechanism with the chronological one or vice versa. This change is displayed in the Aggregation Mechanism/Method column. When aggregation mechanism is changed, all settings of the current mechanism are deleted (confirmation required).

By default, basic aggregation mechanism is selected for calendar dimension. If no aggregation settings have been determined for a calendar (the Aggregation Mechanism/Method column is empty), the chronological aggregation mechanism is set up on clicking the Change Aggregation Mechanism button.

A context menu is available for dimensions. This menu includes the Edit and Delete items. Aggregation mechanism can also be defined for calendar dimension.

If dictionaries with alternative hierarchy were selected in cube dimensions, aggregation can be set up by alternative hierarchy levels.

For dictionaries with alternative hierarchy, the Alternative Hierarchy folder with alternative hierarchy levels available for dictionary, for which aggregation can be set up, will be displayed.

Aggregation for Years or Quarters levels can be set up in the Alternative Calendar dictionary. The aggregation is set up separately for each level.

The aggregation setup by alternative hierarchy levels is the same as aggregation setup by dimensions.
