Object order is crucial when an update is created. Add or place the added objects in the update structure starting from parent objects or sources, which are absent in the target repository, and finishing with the objects that were created on their basis.
NOTE. When separating administrator roles and depending on the selected access control method it is possible to add update elements available to user and also differences in work with update elements and managing object update options.
To add a repository object to update in the object navigator select the Add to Update item in the object's context menu. After executing the operation the object is added to the update structure. In the web application in the object navigator the object added to the update structure is marked with the red indicator.
If the object contains nested objects, select an option of adding the object to update:
Select the Add to Update > Without Nested Objects context menu item to add the object without its child objects.
Select the Add to Update > With Nested Objects context menu item to add the object with its child objects.

When the Modifications Analysis tab is used, the update will contain only the folder objects, which are displayed in the Found Objects list, and not all repository objects in this folder.
After executing the operations in the web application the object is added to the update to the end of the hierarchical list. In the desktop application the object is added to the update after the selected object to the selected folder or to the end of the hierarchical list.

Some types of repository objects show special features when they are added to update:
If attribute-based access control method is used, to update object attributes add the repository object, to which attributes belong, to the update. The attributes are transferred with the object.
If report preview is enabled in the repository, when reports are added to the update, their preview images are not added to the update because they are not part of metadata. To add images to the update, set the Transfer Object Thumbnail parameter to Yes. After the update is applied, preview images are set to objects if the Allow Displaying of Objects as Icons without Taking into Account Object Access Permissions checkbox is selected in the target repository's security manager.
If for dictionaries added to update (including MDM dictionaries) the following child objects were set up: selection schemas, groups of elements or import/export schema of MDM dictionaries, the child objects will be displayed in the update structure as nested.
If a workbook is added to the update, the target repository must contain a measures dictionary with the MEASURES identifier or a units dictionary with the UNITS identifier to correctly update objects.
