Data Area Dimensions

To work with the tool in Foresight Analytics Platform 10, use the new interface.

Dimension setup for data area is available only in the edit mode and is executed using the Data Sources and Data Slices panel.

The Dimensions area shows dimensions of the source that has a selected data slice:

Setting Up Dimensions

The main tasks on working with dimension are setting up dimension layout and setting up dimension selection.

The following operations are available on setting up layout using the Dimensions area:

To move a dimension to another group, click the dictionary icon and drag the dimension to the required group while holding down the icon.

To change element selection in the Dimensions area:

Click the required element.
Press the SPACE key while navigating the elements using the UP and DOWN keys.

To change an elements range selection, in the Dimension area click the first element in the range. Click the last element in the range while holding down the SHIFT key.

To change selection of an element and all its descendants in the Dimension area:

Click the parent element while holding down the CTRL key.
Select the Select Descendants/Deselect Descendants item in the parent element's context menu.
Press the SPACE key while holding down the CTRL key when navigating the elements using UP and DOWN keys.

To change selection for all elements at the same level with specified dimension element, in the Dimensions area select the Select Level or Deselect Level item in the element's context menu.

To change selection for all dimension elements, in the Dimensions area select the Select All or Deselect All item in the parent element's context menu.

Elements selection can be copied and pasted between dimensions of regular report, express report and database, if these dimensions are based on the same data source.

To copy elements selection to clipboard:

Select the Copy context menu item.
Press CTRL+C or CTRL+INSERT.

To paste elements selection from clipboard:

Select the Paste context menu item.
Press CTRL+V or SHIFT+INSERT.

Selection pasted from the clipboard replaces the current selection in the dimension. To add more elements to the existing selection, hold down the CTRL key while executing the command.

Dimension synchronization enables the user to control element selection in several objects that use different data slices.

Synchronization setup is available for data area and chart or map based on data area slice.

To set up dimension synchronization, use the Data Sources and Data Slices panel. To show the panel, click the Data Sources and Data Slices button in the Tools and Panels group of the View ribbon tab.

Select the number of synchronization (# 1, # 2, # 3, and so on) in the Dimensions area in the drop-down list located in the column to the right of the dimension:

To synchronize the same dimensions in different slices, set the same synchronization number of them. As a result, changing of selection in one dimension will set the same selection in all other dimensions synchronized with this dimension.

To choose a selection schema, make sure that selection schemas are set up.

To set selection for a group of elements, select the Select Group item in the dimension element's context menu in the Dimensions area.

NOTE. The Select Group item is hidden from the context menu, if the group is selected in the drop-down menu of the Display Group item.

To use this selection schema on opening the report, select the Apply Only on Open checkbox.

NOTE. If both Groups of Elements and Selection Schemas options are used for the same dimension, note that the result shows the mutual effect of these commands. In the selected group of elements, the elements corresponding to the specified selection schema are selected.

To work with a group of elements:

The dictionary, on which the source dimension is based, should have configured groups of elements.
The dimension must be not fixed, or aggregation for fixed dimensions must be set up.

NOTE. When both Groups of Elements and Selection Schemas are applied to the same dictionary, take into account that interaction of both options affects the result. In the selected group of elements, the elements corresponding to the specified selection schema are selected.

To set selection for a group of elements in the Dimensions area, select the Select Group command in the context menu of the dictionary element.

NOTE. The Select Group item is hidden from the context menu, if the group is selected in the drop-down menu of the Display Group item.

Select a group of elements in the pop-up menu.

NOTE. The pop-up menu of the Select Group item shows only the last ten of the used groups. If more than ten groups are defined for the dimension, the Other Groups item is available in the menu. Select the required group of elements in the Select a Group of Elements dialog box.

To set up dimension parameters, click the button in the Dimensions area next to the required dictionary. The Dimension Parameters dialog box opens:

Groups of Elements and Selection Schemas. Determine settings for groups of elements and selection schemas in the dimension:

Group of Elements. Select a group of elements in the drop-down list. Selection of an element group is available if the dictionary has configured groups of elements.
Selection Schema. Select the required selection schema in the drop-down list. Selection schema selection is available if the dictionary has configured selection schemas.
Apply Only on Open. If the checkbox is selected, groups of elements and selection schemas are used on report opening.

Multiple Selection for Fixed Dimensions. Define multiple selection settings for fixed dimensions:

Enable Data Aggregation. When the checkbox is selected, data aggregation is available.
Method. Select aggregation method in the drop-down list.
