Working in Object Navigator

On working in object navigator it is available to: work with objects, manage user personal data and change parameters of Foresight Analytics Platform:

To quickly navigate by folders and composite repository objects, such as assemblies, time series databases and modeling containers, one can use object tree. To expand or collapse folder hierarchy or composite object hierarchy in the object tree:

Operations with Objects

The object navigator enables the user to create any number of objects of any nesting level. This enables the user to determine repository structure that best meets his needs.

Predefined object types can be created. Additionally, one can determine proper object types.. Wizards are used to create and edit most of the repository objects.

To create an object:

In the web application click the Create button in the main menu and select the required object in the list on the New Object drop-down panel:

Further object creation depends on the object type.

To search for a specific object type, start typing the searched text in the search string. When a whole word or its part are typed, the list displays the elements containing the searched character combination.

To close the New Object panel, click the Close button or press the ESC key.

In the desktop application:

Click the New Object button in the Create group on the Home ribbon tab. To create a folder, click the New Folder button.
Select the Create > <Create> <Object Type> item in the object navigator's context menu.

NOTE. When an object is created inside the container object, a list of the objects that can be created within this container is formed.

To edit the selected repository object:

In the web application:

Select the Edit item in the object's context menu.
Press F4.

In the desktop application:

Click the Edit button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the object's context menu.
Press F4.

Further object editing depends on the object type.

NOTE. Editing is available not for all object types.

When the repository object is edited, its contents is automatically refreshed in all dependent objects.

Most of repository objects can be hidden. For example, to open a table, one needs to open data view window, to open a form, one should start it, and so on.

To open the selected repository object:

In the web application:

Select the Open item in the object's context menu.
Double-click the object.
Press the ENTER key.

In the desktop application:

Click the View button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Open item in the object's context menu.
Double-click the object.

NOTE. Double-clicking the express report opens it in the edit mode.

Most of repository parametric objects can contain parameters that manage display of their data. Such objects are named parametric.

When a parametric object opens, the Determine Parameter Values dialog box opens, in which one should set parameter values. The dialog box example for the Table Dictionary object:

In the desktop application:

The appearance of the parameter edit boxes depends on parameter type. If a default value has been determined for the parameter, the value is displayed in the corresponding box. Set values manually for the rest of the parameters.

NOTE. When working with object parameters, the last entered values are automatically saved. On the next opening of the object the saved parameters values are displayed.

Opening a cube or time series database means opening one of the Foresight Analytics Platform tools, in which the specified cube or time series database is used as a data source.

To open a cube as a data source for express report and a time series database as data source for workbook:

In the web application:

Select the Open item in the object's context menu.
Double-click the object.
Press the ENTER key.

In the desktop application:

Select the Open item in the context menu of cube or time series database.
Click the Open button on the Home ribbon tab.

To open a cube or time series database using other tools:

Select the Open With item in the context menu of cube or time series database, and select the required tool in the drop-down menu.
Click the lower part of the Open button on the Home ribbon tab and select the required tool.

NOTE. Opening a cube or time series database using other tools is available only in the desktop application.

A cube can be opened with the following tools:

Analytical Queries (OLAP).
Reports.
Dashboards.

NOTE. In the web application a cube can be opened only by means of the Analytical Queries (OLAP) tool.

A time series database can be opened with the following tools:

Modeling and Forecasting.
Time Series Analysis.
Analytical Queries (OLAP).
Reports.
Dashboards.

NOTE. In the web application a time series database can be opened only by means of the Time Series Analysis tool.

If several data sources are selected in the object navigator, on opening via the Open With menu only the Analytical Queries (OLAP) item and Dashboard Designer item are available.

NOTE. Several objects can be opened simultaneously only in the desktop application.

To rename the selected repository object:

In the web application:

Select the Properties item in the object's context menu. In the dialog box on the Object Type tab enter a new name for the repository object.
Select the Rename item in the object's context menu.
Press F2.

In the desktop application:

Click the Rename button in the Arrange group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Properties item in the object's context menu. In the dialog box on the Object Type tab enter a new name for the repository object.
Select the Rename context item in the object's context menu.
Select the object and click once on its name.
Press F2.

After repository object's name is edited, its name is automatically refreshed in all dependent objects.

To delete the selected repository object:

In the web application:

Select the Delete item in the object's context menu.
Press the DELETE key.

In the desktop application:

Click the Delete button in the Arrange group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Delete item in the object context menu.
Press CTRL+DELETE.

A confirmation dialog box opens.

NOTE. If on deleting repository objects are detected that depend on the deleted object or the deleted object is a default repository object , the message is displayed indicating that it is impossible to delete the object, and the object will not be deleted.

To select a single object in the objects list click on it. To select the object located above or below, use the UP and DOWN keys.

To select several objects in the objects list, hold down the CTRL key and select the required objects one by one. To select a range of objects, select the first object from the required range, hold down the SHIFT key and select the last object from the range.

NOTE. When several objects are selected, pressing the UP and DOWN keys results in the selected object located above or below the last selected object. The rest of the objects are deselected.

To select all objects in the objects list:

In the web application press CTRL+A.
In the desktop application:

Click the Select All button on the Home ribbon tab.
Press ALT+A.

To deselect:

Click the Deselect All button, on the Home ribbon tab.
Click the empty area of the objects list area.

NOTE. Deselecting is available only in the desktop application.

Refreshing the objects list is used to refresh repository contents.

To refresh the objects list:

In the web application click the Refresh button in the object navigator's main menu or press F5.
In the desktop application click the Refresh button on the Home ribbon tab or press F5.

The Synchronize with Source Object item is used to update information from shortcut with the source. To do this, select the Synchronize with Source Object item in the shortcut's context menu.

NOTE. Synchronization with source object is available only in the desktop application.

NOTE. Commands for working with objects will be unavailable or limited if the required tool does not have a feature. Available operations with objects are determined depending on user permissions and privileges.
