Getting Started with the Designer of Business Applications Extension

To get started with a business application, create a new business application or open a ready business application.

To create a new business application in the object navigator:

In the web application click the Create button in the main menu and select the object type on the New Object side panel.
In the desktop application execute one of the operations:

Click the New Object > User Objects > Business Application button in the Create group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Create > User Objects > Business Application item in the object navigator's context menu.

After executing one of the operations:

In the web application the business application creation wizard opens. When creating a business application, one can use only the Basic Settings wizard page.
In the desktop application the Create Object – Business Application dialog box opens:

Set basic properties of business application that are similar to properties in the business application creation wizard on the Basic Properties page in the web application. Then the designer of business applications opens.

To open a ready business application for edit in the object navigator select the business application and execute one of the operations:

In the web application:

Select the Edit item in the business application's context menu.
Select the Edit in a New Tab item in the business application's context menu.
Select the Edit in a New Window item in the business application's context menu.
Press F4.

In the desktop application:

Click the Edit button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the business application's context menu.
Press F4.

After executing one of the operations:

In the web application the business application creation wizard opens.
In the desktop application the designer of business application opens.

To open a ready business application for view in the object navigator select the business application and execute one of the operations:

In the web application:

Select the Open item in the business application's context menu.
Select the Open in a New Tab item in the business application's context menu.
Select the Open in a New Window item in the business application's context menu.
Double-click the business application.
Press the ENTER key.

In the desktop application:

Click the Open button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Open item in the business application's context menu.

After executing one of the operations:

In the web application the business application opens in the navigator object tree.
In the desktop application the business application opens in a new navigator tab. The folder level is limited to business application level, that is, business application folder is a root one.

NOTE. To open business application in the web interface, make sure that designer of business application back end is installed and set up.

TIP. It is recommended to create a business application within one application: either in the web application or in the desktop application.

Business application 10.x Business application 9.x

The business application is displayed according to the web application of Foresight Analytics Platform 10.0 or later if the designer of business applications back end is installed automatically on Apache2 web server in Linux OS or manually on IIS in Windows OS:

The business application is displayed according to the web application of Foresight Analytics Platform 9.9 or earlier if the designer of business applications back end is installed manually on Apache2 web server in Linux OS, Java in Linux/Windows OS or automatically on IIS in Windows OS:

Title bar. It contains a custom title of business application if its formatting is set up. It is not displayed by default. It is available only in the business application 9.x.
Navigation bar. It contains business application menu items.
Main menu. It contains user credentials and service commands:

Open Foresight Analytics Platform help.
Get program information. It is available only in the business application 10.x.
Change user password.
Exit the business application.

If the working area displays the object navigator, the following operations can be executed:

Update list of objects. It is available only in the business application 10.x.
Open object for view.
Manage object view.
Increase working area.
Navigate by objects.

Navigation menu. It contains the path from the start page to the folder or object currently opened and allows for managing displaying of the navigation bar using the Collapse Bar and Expand Bar buttons.
Working area. It is used to display and open objects selected on the navigation bar.

For objects opened with custom buttons from data entry form, navigation bar and navigation menu are not available if the following conditions are satisfied:

An object opens in a modal window. The Open in Modal Window checkbox is selected for the object on setting up a custom button in a data entry form.
An object or a folder with the object are not displayed in the navigator bar. The Do not Show display option is selected for an object or a folder on setting up navigation structure.
An object or a folder containing the object are located outside the designer of business applications.

Component

To get started with the component, create a new component or open a ready component.

A ready component can be opened on a separate tab of the system object navigator and in the component designer.

To create a new component in the object navigator execute one of the operations:

Click the New Object > User Objects > Component button in the Create group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Create > User Objects > Component item in the object navigator's context menu.

After executing one of the operations the Create Object - Component dialog box opens. Enter name of the created component and change the automatically created identifier if required.

The selected component will open for edit.

To open a ready component for view on a separate tab of the system object navigator select the component and execute one of the operations:

Click the Open or Open > In Default Tool button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Open item in the component's context menu.
Double-click the selected component in the object navigator's folder tree.

In component view mode on a separate tab of the system navigator, the folder level is limited to component level, that is, the component folder is a root one.

To open a ready component for edit, select the component and execute one of the operations:

Click the Edit button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the component's context menu.
Press F4.

After executing one of the operations the component designer opens.

The component designer dialog box has the interface similar to the designer of business applications:

The side menu of the component designer contains the following items:

Move objects. It contains hierarchical structure of repository and component folders and enables the user to move objects from the repository to the component and vice versa.
Public objects. It contains hierarchical structure of all component objects and enables the user to specify common objects that can be used in various applications.
Edit dependencies. It contains a list of Foresight Analytics Platform components required for component stable work.

Component classes. It contains a list of object classes that are related to this component and will be added to the repository after component installation.
Update. It enables the user to create and install component version updates.

The working area displays features enabling the user to work with objects in the selected menu item.

The interface of the component opened for view on a separate tab of the system navigator is the same as of the object navigator of Foresight Analytics Platform.

Components and business applications created by users depend on the Designer of Business Applications system component of Foresight Analytics Platform that is required to provide their stable work on updating component versions of Foresight Analytics Platform.
