Getting Started with the Designer of Business Applications Extension

To get started with a business application, create a new business application or open a ready business application.

A ready business application can be opened on a separate tab of the system object navigator and in the designer of business applications designer.

To create a new business application in the object navigator execute one of the operations:

In the web application click the Create button in the main menu and select the New Object object type on the side panel.
In the desktop application:

Select the New Object > User Objects > Business Application item in the Create group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Create > User Objects > Business Application item in the object navigator's context menu.

After executing one of the operations the business application creation wizard opens in the web application or the Create Object - Business Application dialog box opens in the desktop application. When creating a business application in the web application, one can use only the Basic Settings wizard page.

To open a ready business application for view, in the object navigator execute one of the operations:

In the web application:

Select the Open item in the object's context menu.
Double-click the object.
Press the ENTER key.

In the desktop application:

Select the object and click the Open button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Open item in the object's context menu.
Double-click the object.

After executing one of the operations the business application opens in the navigator object tree in the web application or on a separate navigator tab in the desktop application. In the desktop application the folder level is limited to business application level, that is, business application folder is a root one.

To open a ready business application for edit, execute one of the operations:

In the web application:

Select the Edit item in the object's context menu.
Press F4.

In the desktop application:

Click the Edit button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the object's context menu.
Press F4.

After executing one of the operations the business application creation wizard opens in the web application or the designer of business applications opens in the desktop application. When opening a ready business application in the web application, additional wizard pages are available: Layout and Formatting, Navigation Structure, Advanced Settings.

To open a ready business application in the web interface, open the supported browser and specify business application URL in the connection string. In the login dialog box enter user name and password in the corresponding boxes and click the Log In button.

The side menu of the designer of business applications contains the items:

Common parameters. It contains boxes to enter application name and description, a block to set handler and a unit that starts on web application login.
Layout and formatting. It contains settings to select web application structure display mode: display only side menu, side menu and title bar, only title bar, without title bar and side menu.
Menu structure. It contains hierarchical structure of folders that can be side menu items of web application and object display parameters in web application.
Move objects. It contains hierarchical structure of repository and business application folders and enables the user to move objects from the repository to the business application and vice versa.
Edit dependencies. It contains a list of all repository components and enables the user to set a list of components required for business application stable work.

Update. It enables the user to create and install business application version updates.

The working area displays features enabling the user to work with objects in the selected menu item.

Title bar. It contains web application name and logo.
Side menu. It contains web application functional sections.
Main menu. It contains name of authorized user and a command in the drop-down menu of the button:

Help. When the item is selected, the online help page for Foresight Analytics Platform opens.
Change Password. When the item is selected, user password changes using the Change Password dialog box.
Logout. When the item is selected, the user logs out of the application and the login dialog box opens.

If the working area displays a list of objects, then the View menu is additionally displayed to set up object layout type.

Navigation menu. It contains the path from the start page to the functional block or object that is currently opened, and the button to show or hide side menu.
Working area. It is used to display objects selected in the side menu. On selecting and opening object, the working area additionally displays toolbar to work with selected object and a button to hide or show toolbar.

Features of Displaying Elements

For objects opened with custom buttons from a data entry form, side and navigation menus are not available if the following conditions are satisfied:

An object opens in a modal window. TheOpen in Modal Window checkbox is selected for the object on setting up a custom button in a data entry form.
An object or a folder with the object are not displayed on the navigation bar. The Do Not Show radio button is selected for an object or a folder on setting up business application menu structure.
An object or a folder containing the object are located outside the designer of business applications.

To provide web application functioning, install and set up back end of designer of business applications.

Interface of the business application opened for view on a separate tab of the system navigator matches with the object navigator of Foresight Analytics Platform.

Component

To get started with the component, create a new component or open a ready component.

A ready component can be opened on a separate tab of the system object navigator and in the component designer.

To create a new component in the object navigator execute one of the operations:

Click the New Object > User Objects > Component button on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Create > User Objects > Component item in the object navigator's context menu.

The Create Object - Component dialog box opens, where enter name of the component to be created and, if required, change automatically generated identifier.

Then the created component will open for edit.

To open a ready component for view on a separate tab of the system object navigator select the component and execute one of the operations:

Click the Open or Open > In Default Tool button on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Open item in the selected component's context menu.
Double-click the selected component in the object navigator's folder tree.

In component view mode on a separate tab of the system navigator, the folder level is limited to component level, that is, the component folder is a root one.

To open a ready component for edit, select the component and execute one of the operations:

Click the Edit button on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the selected component's context menu.
Press F4.

The component designer opens in the edit mode.

The component designer dialog box has the interface similar to the designer of business applications one:

The side menu of the component designer contains the following items:

Move objects. It contains hierarchical structure of repository and component folders and enables the user to move objects from the repository to the component and vice versa.
Public objects. It contains hierarchical structure of all component objects and enables the user to specify common objects that can be used in various applications.
Edit dependencies. It contains a list of Foresight Analytics Platform components required for component stable work.

Component classes. It contains a list of object classes that are related to this component and will be added to the repository after component installation.
Update. It enables the user to create and install component version updates.

The working area displays features enabling the user to work with objects in the selected menu item.

The interface of the component opened for view on a separate tab of the system navigator is the same as of the object navigator of Foresight Analytics Platform.

Components and business applications created by users depend on the Designer of Business Applications system component of Foresight Analytics Platform that is required to provide their stable work on updating component versions of Foresight Analytics Platform.
