Editing Dimensions

The following components can be edited in dimensions included into a data source:

NOTE. After dimension editing it will not be rebuilt on changing data source parameters or managing dimensions.

To open a dictionary corresponding to dimension, select the Source Dictionary item in the drop-down menu of the Edit button on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.

NOTE. Source dictionary parameters can be set up only in the desktop application.

The Original Dimension area contains dimension elements before editing. The Total Dimension area contains elements after editing.

NOTE. The dimension can be edited if primary key is determined in all cube dimensions.

Editing Dimension List

To add a new calculated element to dimension:

Click the New Element button in the Element group on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.
Select the Element > Add New item in the dimension' context menu or dimension element on the dimension tab.

To set up the dimension element, open the Expression Editor dialog box opens. A new dimension element is added to the dimension, which tab is opened in the Selection group of the side panel.

A new calculated element cannot be added:

If global cache is used.
If a group of elements is displayed in dimension.
If aggregated data is drilled down.
If a cube is a data source:

In table or calculated dictionary of which there are no indexes.
Which dictionary attribute is used as alternative hierarchy and is included into data source structure of regular report as a child element.

Aggregating element enables the user to quickly create a new element combining other elements by the mathematical function.

To add an aggregating element to dimension:

Select the Element in the dimension's context menu.
Open the context menu of table column and row header elements in the working area.
Click the New Element button in the Element group on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.
Select the Element item in the context menu of the Total Dimension list in the Edit Dimension dialog box.

After selecting the element select one of the methods for setting a new element formula:

Combine into New Element. The formula of a new element contains values of selected elements combined by the selected function. All selected elements become children for the new element.
Add by Selected with an Operation. The formula of a new element contains values of selected elements combined by the selected function. The position of elements, the aggregating elements is based on, is not changed.

NOTE. The Add by Selected with an Operation method is available only in the desktop application.

The functions are available as a new formula element:

Sum.
Mean.
Maximum.
Minimum.
Mode.
Median.
Variance.

When working with dimension elements the operations of adding the Subtotal and Total elements are available.

Such elements are added as follows:

The first method:

Click the lower part of the New Element button of the Elements group on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.
Select the Add Subtotal or Add Total item in the drop-down menu of the button.
Select total calculation method.

The second method:

Go to the dimension tab in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Element > Add Subtotal or Add Total item in the context menu of the dimension or dimension element.
Select total calculation method.

Available calculation methods:

Sum.
Mean.
Minimum.
Maximum.
Mode.
Median.
Variance.

After selecting the calculation method a new dimension element named Calculation_method (Dimension_element_name) is added to the current dimension.

To delete an element:

Select the Element > Delete item in the element's context menu.
Click the Delete button in the Element group of the Hierarchy ribbon tab.
Select the element in the Total Dimension list of the Edit Dimension dialog box and click the Delete button or select the Element > Delete item in the element's context menu.

The element is deleted without confirmation of executed action.

NOTE. A calendar frequency element cannot be deleted.

To restore all changed and deleted dimension elements:

Click the Restore button in the Dimension group of the Hierarchy ribbon tab.
Select the Dimension > Restore item in the dimension element's context menu.

NOTE. It is unavailable to add a new calculated element, aggregated element, the Subtotal and Total element for combined dimension.

Editing Dimension Element

To edit an element, use items in the element's context menu, buttons on the Hierarchy ribbon tab and the Edit Dimension dialog box.

To rename an element, select it on the side panel or in the Total Dimension list of the Edit Dimension dialog box and:

Select the Element > Rename item in the element's context menu.
Click the Rename button in the Edit Dimension dialog box.
Click the Rename button in the Element group on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.

To edit element formula, select it on the side panel or in the Total Dimension list of the Edit Dimension dialog box and:

Select the Edit Formula item in the element's context menu.
Click the Edit Formula button in the Edit Dimension dialog box.
Click the Edit Formula button in the Element group on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.

To set up the expression of the calculated element of the dimension the Expression Editor dialog box opens.
