Selecting Dimension Elements

Formats displaying the number of selected elements in the tooltip in regular reports:

[Dimension_name] (All). Full selection.
[Dimension_name] (No selection). No selection.
[Dimension_name] ([Number of selected] of [Total]). Partial selection.
[Dimension_name] ([Element_name]). Single selection.

Formats displaying the number of selected elements in express reports and dashboards on the Selection group of tabs on the side panel:

[Dimension_name] (All). Full selection.
[Dimension_name]. No selection.
[Dimension_name] ([Number of selected] of [Total]). Partial selection.

To change selection by means of mouse:

Click the element to invert selection.
Click the element while holding down the SHIFT key to deselect all elements and select elements (except for collapsed ones) located between the focused element and the clicked element.
Click the element while holding down the CTRL key to select or deselect the element and all its child elements.

Select the required selection option in the context menu.

Changing selection by means of the ribbon is available in express reports and dashboards.

To change selection, use the Selection ribbon tab.

NOTE. The Selection ribbon tab is available after selecting the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

To select or deselect a dimension element, click it:

In regular reports on the selection panel.
In information panels on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards on the dimension tab in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

To select all dimension elements:

In regular reports select the Select All item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Select All item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Select all item in the dimension element' context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Select All item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Click the Select All button on the Selection ribbon tab.

After executing one of the operations all dimension elements are selected.

To deselect all dimension elements:

In regular reports select the Deselect All item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Deselect All item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Deselect All item in the dimension element's context menu on the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Deselect All item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Click the Deselect button on the Selection ribbon tab.

After executing one of the operations all dimension elements are deselected.

To select descendants by level:

In regular reports select the Select Descendants by Level item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Select Descendants by Level item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Select Descendants by Level item in the dimension element's context menu on the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Select Descendants by Level item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

After executing one of the operations the dimension elements that are descendants by level are selected.

To select all descendants:

In regular reports select the Select All Descendants item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Select All Descendants item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Select All Descendants item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Select All Descendants item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

After executing one of the operations all descendants are selected.

To deselect all descendants:

In regular reports select the Deselect All Descendants item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Deselect Descendants item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Deselect All Descendants item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Deselect Descendants item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

After executing one of the operations all descendants are deselected.

Level selection is available for the dimensions that have levels added.

To select a dimension level:

In regular reports select the Select Level > <level name> item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Select Level > <level name> item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Advanced Selection > Select Level> <level name> item or Advanced Selection > Select Level <level name> item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Advanced Selection > Select Level > <level name> item or Advanced Selection > Select Level <level name> item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select level in the drop-down menu of the Select level button on the Selection ribbon tab.

After executing one of the operations the chosen dimension level elements are selected.

To deselect a dimension level:

In regular reports select the Deselect Level > <level name> item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Deselect Level > <level name> item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Advanced Selection > Deselect Level > <level name> item or Advanced Selection > Deselect Level <level name> item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Advanced Selection > Deselect Level > <level name> item or Advanced Selection > Deselect Level <level name> item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

After executing one of the operations the chosen dimension level elements are deselected.

To execute multiple selection and aggregation in fixed dimensions:

In regular reports select data aggregation method for fixed dimensions in the Aggregation of Fixed Dimensions drop-down list in the Data group of parameters on the side panel.
In information panels select data aggregation method for fixed dimensions in the Aggregation of Fixed Dimensions drop-down list in the Data group of parameters on the side panel.
In express reports and dashboards select data aggregation method for fixed dimensions in the Aggregate Fixed Dimensions drop-down list on the Data tab in the Source/Data group of tabs on the side panel.

Data aggregation methods for fixed dimensions:

None. Data is not aggregated.
Sum. The selected elements are summed in fixed dimensions.
Minimum. The minimum value is displayed from selected elements in fixed dimensions.
Maximum. The maximum value is displayed from selected elements in fixed dimensions.
From Source Dimensions. Fixed dimension data is handled with the aggregation method specified in settings of data source. When working with ADOMD cubes, the aggregation configured in appropriate ADOMD sources is used.

From Source Facts. In fixed dimensions with full selection server aggregation is used according to the methods specified for source facts. Source facts aggregation should be set up if a data source contains several records for one set which should be aggregated.

If the Aggregate Selected Elements Only checkbox is selected in cube dimension aggregation settings, and on the Facts Binding page the aggregation method is selected for facts, aggregation is calculated on server by selected elements according to the methods specified for cube facts. If parent element is selected, aggregation is executed only for its child elements. If parent element is selected without child elements, data is not aggregated into it. If the checkbox is deselected and multiple selection is used, aggregation is executed by the entire dimension, regardless of the selection. When single selection is used for a parent element, aggregation is executed for its child elements.

Average. The average value is displayed by selected elements in fixed dimensions.

Creating a selection schema by selected dimension elements is available only in express reports and dashboards.

A selection schema cannot be created if the dimension contains a calculated element, an alterative or custom hierarchy is set.

To create a selection schema by selected dimension elements:

Select the Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema > Create Schema by Selected Elements item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema > Create Schema by Selected Elements item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Create Schema by Selected Elements item in the drop-down menu of the Selection Schema button on the Selection ribbon tab.

After executing one of the operations the selection schema by selected dimension elements is created and applied.

Selection schema application is available in regular reports, information panels, express reports, and dashboards.

To apply dimension selection schema:

In regular reports select the Apply Selection Schema > <selection schema name> item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Apply Selection Schema > <selection schema name> item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema > <selection schema name> item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema > <selection schema name> item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select selection schema in the drop-down menu of the Selection Schema button on the Selection ribbon tab.

To apply the selected schema on report opening, select the When Opening a Report checkbox, to apply the selected schema on rebuilding the dimension, select the When Rebuilding a Dimension checkbox. Both checkboxes can be selected at the same time, in this case the schema will be applied on report opening and on dimension rebuilding.

If selection schema is set, changing selection of specific elements is unavailable. To disable the selection schema, select the Reset item.

Creating a group of dimension elements is available only in express reports and dashboards.

A group of dimension elements cannot be created if the dimension contains a calculated element, an alternative or custom hierarchy is set.

To create a group of dimension elements:

Select the Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema > Create Group by Selected Elements item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Advanced Selection > Apply Selection Schema > Create Group by Selected Elements item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Create Group by Selected Elements item in the drop-down menu of the Select Group button on the Selection ribbon tab.

After executing one of the operations the group by selected elements is created and applied.

To apply a group of dimension elements:

In regular reports select the Select Group > <name of group of elements> item in the dimension element's context menu on the selection panel.
In information panels select the Select Group > <name of group of elements> item in the dimension element's context menu on the Dimension Filter panel.
In express reports and dashboards:

Select the Advanced Selection > Select Group > <name of group of elements> item in the dimension element's context menu in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select the Advanced Selection > Select Group > <name of group of elements> item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.
Select group of elements in the drop-down menu of the Select Group button on the Selection ribbon tab.

After executing one of the operations the group of dimension elements is selected. If required, change selection of single elements.

To disable the selection of group of elements, select the Reset item.

Alternative hierarchy application is available only in regular reports and information panels.

NOTE. An alternative hierarchy can be applied if the current dictionary has at least one alternative hierarchy created or a custom hierarchy set up.

To apply alternative hierarchy, select the Alternative Hierarchies > <hierarchy name> item in the dimension element's context menu:

On the selection panel in regular reports.
On the Dimension Filter panel in information panels.

After executing one of the operations, alternative hierarchy elements are selected. If required, change selection of single elements.

To deselect alternative hierarchy elements, select the Reset item.
