Setting Up Working Area: ETL Task

To create an object in the working area:

Select the Insert main menu item and select the required object.
Double-click the required object on the objects panel with the main mouse button.
Drag the required object from objects panel to the working area.

NOTE. Objects creation is available only in the desktop application.

To set up formatting of the selected object:

Select the Format item in the object's context menu.
Select the Format > Edit main menu item.

The standard formatting dialog box opens.

NOTE. Objects formatting can be set up only in the desktop application.

Various modes are available to work with ETL task objects.

For quick and comfortable scrolling of working area contents, use:

Mouse wheel.
Hand mode.

NOTE. The pointer and hand modes are available both in the desktop and the web application. Other modes are available only in the desktop mode.

Pointer Mode

The pointer mode provides a possibility to select and move objects on editing ETL task.

To select this mode:

Select the View > Pointer Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+1.

To select group of objects, hold down the SHIFT key and click the required objects.

The pointer enables the user to fold lines. To add a line fold, hold down the CTRL key and use the mouse button to determine the fold on the line.

NOTE. The pointer mode is used only to select object(s) in the web application.

Line Creation Mode

This mode enables the user to link objects with lines. To select the mode:

Select the View > Line Creation Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+2.

To create a custom line, move the cursor on the working area while holding down the CTRL key and main mouse button.

Link Creation Mode

This mode enables the user to link objects with arrows.

To select the mode:

Select the View > Link Creation Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+3.

To create a custom line, move the cursor on the working area while holding down the CTRL key and main mouse button.

Connecting Line Creation Mode

This mode enables the user to link objects with connecting lines and to link object points.

To select the mode:

Select the View > Connecting Line Creation Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+4.

To create a custom line, move the cursor on the working area while holding down the CTRL key and main mouse button.

Curved Line Creation Mode

This mode enables the user to link objects with curved lines.

To select the mode:

Select the View > Curved Line Creation Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+5.

To create a custom line, move the cursor on the working area while holding down the CTRL key and main mouse button.

Hand Mode

This mode enables the user to scroll working area contents.

To select the mode:

Select the View > Hand Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+6.
Hold down the SPACE key on using the other mode.

Connection Points Editing Mode

This mode enables the user to edit connection points.

To select the mode:

Select the View > Connection Points Editing Mode main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press ALT+7.

Connection points can be moved along the object borders. When moved, while holding down the CTRL key connection points are copied. In this case object borders can hold infinite number of connection points.

Use the clipboard to move and copy working area objects.

NOTE. Access permissions are taken into account when the user works with the clipboard. The user can execute only operations, for which he has permissions.

To copy selected objects to the clipboard:

Select the Edit > Copy main menu item.
Select the Paste item in the object's context menu.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press CTRL+C or CTRL+INSERT.

NOTE. The operation is unavailable for the Link object.

To cut selected objects to clipboard:

Select the Edit > Cut main menu item.
Select the Cut item in the object's context menu.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press CTRL+X or SHIFT+DELETE.

NOTE. The operation is unavailable for the Link object. The links between objects are deleted on object movement.

To paste the copied or cut object from the clipboard:

Select the Edit > Paste main menu item.
Select the Paste item in the object's context menu.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Press CTRL+V or SHIFT+INSERT.

NOTE. The Paste option is available if the clipboard contains some objects.

To delete selected objects:

Select the Edit > Delete main menu item.
Click the button on the toolbar.
Select the Delete item in the object's context menu.
Press the DELETE key.

NOTE. The links between objects are deleted.

To rotate the selected object:

Specify rotation angle on the Size tab in the Object Format dialog box.
Select an object and use the arrow button:

To rotate the object for 90 degrees clockwise and for 90 degrees counterclockwise:

Click the or button on the toolbar.
Select the Rotate item in the object's context menu and select the rotation option.
Select the Format > Rotation main menu item and select the rotation option.

To set up placement order of selected objects:

Click the Bring Selected Objects to Front button or the Send Selected Objects to Back button on the toolbar.
Select the Order > Bring to Front/Send to Back item in the object's context menu.
Select the Format > Order > Bring to Front/Send to Back main menu item.

To create a group of objects select several objects by clicking them one by one with held down SHIFT key and:

Click the button on the toolbar.
Select the Grouping > Group item in the context menu of selected objects.
Select the Format > Grouping > Group main menu item.

To ungroup objects, select a group of objects and:

Click the button on the toolbar.
Select the Grouping > Ungroup item in the context menu of selected objects.
Select the Format > Grouping > Ungroup main menu item.

To adjust object size select objects by clicking them one by one with held down SHIFT key and:

Click the appropriate button on the toolbar.
Select the Align/Distribute item in the context menu of selected objects.
Select the Format > Align/Distribute main menu item.

Alignment options	Brief description
	It aligns objects to the left.
	It aligns objects to the center.
	It aligns objects to the right.
	It aligns objects to the top.
	It aligns objects to the middle.
	It aligns objects to the bottom.
	It distributes objects horizontally (this option is available if three or more objects are selected).
	It distributes objects vertically (this option is available if three or more objects are selected).
	It resizes the widths of all selected objects to the widest selected object.
	It resizes the widths of all selected objects to the narrowest selected object.
	It resizes the heights of all selected objects to the highest selected object.
	It resizes the heights of all selected objects to the lowest selected object.

Each working area object may contain some text.

Connectors, transformers, and objects in the Other group display object names as text.

A custom text can be set for graphics primitives or lines connecting primitives. To enter and edit text double-click the selected primitive. The text editor opens. To finish text editing, click outside the editor area. The text created for a line is always positioned horizontally. Object, to which the text belongs, is rotated with the text. To change text format, select it and select the Format context menu item. The formatting dialog box opens.

Except for the basic objects (providers, consumers, transformers) additional objects can also be created based on custom templates. To create templates, select the Insert > Provider/Consumer/Transformer > Create New Template main menu item.

To undo the last operation with the object:

Click the Undo Last Action button on the toolbar.

Press CTRL+Z.
Press ALT+BACKSPACE.

To redo the last undone operation:

Click the Redo Last Action button on the toolbar.
Press CTRL+Y.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+Z.

Opening the context menu in the working area and selecting the Workspace Parameters item opens the dialog box to set up working area formatting and selection style. The functions of this dialog box match with those of the corresponding dialog box of the Workspace repository object. The dialog box is described in the Setting Up Workspace Formatting subsection.
