Selecting Data Sources and Working with Them: Regular report

Regular reports can use one or several data sources to create the slices used for data visualization as tables and charts.

Click the Sources button on the control panel.

NOTE. The Sources button on the control panel is available only when a regular report is opened for edit.

To resize the panel:

Hover the cursor on the border between the working area and the panel. The cursor will change to a two-headed arrow.
Hold down the mouse button and move the border to the required position.

Maximum panel size is one third of the browser window.

Adding a Data Source

Click the Add Source button at the top or central part of the Sources panel.

NOTE. The Add Source button in the central part of the Sources panel is available if no data source is added.

Execute the following operations:

Select the required repository object in the repository object tree. Multiple selection is available.

To quickly select an object, enter object's name/identifier/key in the search box depending on display settings. Search is executed automatically while the searched text is entered into the search string. The list will display the objects, which names/identifiers/keys contain the entered text.

To set up displaying of repository objects in the list, click the Show Object button and select display option in the drop-down menu:

Name. Objects are displayed with their names. Default option.
Identifier. Objects are displayed with their identifiers.
Key. Objects are displayed with their keys.

Several options can be selected. Identifier and key will be specified in brackets.

To reset search results, click the Clear button.

Click the Apply button.

To create and add a data source including two or more cubes:

Toggle the Combine Sources switch to active state.
Select two or more cubes in the repository object tree.
Click the Apply button.

After executing the operations, a virtual cube is created.

NOTE. The Combine Source switch is inactive by default.

Setting Up Data Source Including Two or More Cubes

To create and edit data sources including two or more cubes, use the Set Up Data Source dialog box.

Hover the cursor over the cube on the Sources panel. The Set Up Data Source button is displayed.

NOTE. The Set up Data Source button is available for cubes with a single data slice.

Click the Set Up Data Source button.

NOTE. The Set Up Data Source button is always displayed for combines data sources.

To add cubes to a combined data source:

Click the Add button. The Add Source dialog box opens.
Select the required repository object in the repository object tree. Multiple selection is available.

NOTE. The data source should include two or more cubes.

Click the Apply button.

As a result, the selected cubes are displayed in the list of cubes, of which the data source consists, in the Set Up Source dialog box.

Cubes are displayed in the list in the order of their adding. If the cubes were added at the same time, their order is the same as in the object navigator.

To remove a cube from data source:

Select the cube in the list of data source cubes. Multiple selection is available.
Click the Remove button.

NOTE. The data source should include two or more cubes.

To set displaying of the list if data source cubes:

Click the Display Object button.
Select one of the display versions in the drop-down menu:

Name. Cubes are displayed with their names. Default option.
Identifier. Cubes are displayed with their identifiers.
Name and Identifier. Cubes are displayed with their names, and their identifiers are displayed in brackets.

To rename a data source, set a new name in the Name box. The default data source name: Virtual cube N, where N - number of the data source created within one regular report.

NOTE. The Apply button is available if the data source includes two or more cubes.

Searching for Data Source from the List of Selected Sources

To quickly search for the required data source by name in the list of selected data sources, use the search:

Setting Up Displaying in the List

The Sources panel contains the following object display options (data sources, slices and visualizers):

To show addresses and identifiers, select the Show Addresses and Identifiers item in the context menu of any data source on the Sources panel. After executing the command, it will be marked with a checkbox.

NOTE. After the command is executed, addresses and identifiers of all data sources and their slices with visualizers are shown regardless of the data source, for which the command was executed.

To show object names again, execute the command again and deselect its checkbox.

Selecting Display Version

By default, the display version is used, which was set as a default one during cube setup.

To change data source's display version, select display version name in the drop-down menu of the Display Versions item in the source's context menu and confirm the operation in the confirmation dialog box.

As a result, the list of dimensions is refreshed according to cube display version settings for all the slices built on this data source.

Deleting Source

To delete a data source, select the Delete item in the selected data source's context menu. After executing the command the operation confirmation dialog box opens. Clicking the Yes button deletes the selected data source.

Deleting the data sources deletes all child objects. All slices, tables and charts based on these data slices are deleted for the data source.
