Getting Started with Update Manager

To create a new update in the desktop application:

From update manager:

Select the Update > Create main menu item.
Click the Create Update button on the Update Manager panel.

From the security manager Select the Repository > Version Update > Create main menu item.
From the object navigator select the Tools > Update Manager > Create main menu item.

NOTE. In the web application, an update an be created only in the object navigator.

To open the ready update in the desktop application:

From file:

Select the Update > Open from File main menu item in the update manager or click the Open Update File on the Update Manager panel.
In the security manager Select the Repository > Version Update > Open main menu item.
In the object navigator select the Tools > Update Manager > Open main menu item.

After this a standard file selection dialog box opens. Select a *.pef or *.pefx file.

From repository:

In the update manager select the Update > Open from Repository main menu item. In the dialog box that opens select update object from repository objects.
In object navigator Select the object with the Update type and select the Open context menu or main menu item.

There are some features on opening ready update.

NOTE. In the web application, the ready update cannot be opened.

Main menu. It contains a list of commands that are used to execute various operations with update.
The Update Manager panel. It contains frequently used commands. The panel is the same as quick access toolbar.
Update wizard pages. The area is used to display update wizard pages on creating an update in the web application and to navigate between wizard pages on installing the update.
The Update panel. It is used to create an update structure, it consists of quick access toolbar and object tree that are added to the update.
The Object Update Options Panel. It is used to view and set up object update parameters selected on the Update panel.
The Repository Tab. It contains a tree of repository objects and objects contained inside container objects: modeling container, MDM repository. It is used to add repository objects to update.
The Modifications Analysis Tab. It is used to get information about repository objects modifications by specified parameters.
The Update Options Tab/Panel. It is used to determine edited update parameters.

The update manager functionality defers in the desktop and web applications. The difference is presented in the table, but the functionality, that is fully available in the desktop and web application, is not given:
