Drilldown and Drillup: Information Panel

To get detailed or general information about data, use data drilldown or drillup.

The operations are available for the dimensions selected during drilldown setup.

Drilldown

Depending on the level of the executed context menu command one can drill down the first ad the second levels.

NOTE. Drilldown is unavailable if cells from different data sources and/or elements of different dimensions are included in the selected data area range.

First-Level Drilldown

First-level drilldown includes drilldown by hierarchy, drilldown with replacement and fixing, drilldown into relational data.

Data drilldown is available only for the dimension elements, which have child elements. Drilldown moves to a lower level of dictionary hierarchy.

To drill down data by hierarchy:

Select:

One or several table sidehead or heading elements.
One or several table data cells.

Select the Drill Down context menu item.

After executing the operations, all selected data is drilled down:

For dimension elements if they have child elements.
For data cells if intersecting dimension elements in these cells have child elements.

Behavior of selection during drilldown depends on the state of the Extend Selection switch:

If the switch is inactive, the selection is rebuilt: all child elements of the lower dimension level are selected.
If the switch is active, the selection is extended: all child elements of the lower dictionary level are added to the existing selection.

If there is no hierarchy or the selection is on the lower hierarchy level, dimension elements can be drilled down with replacement of the dimension with the dimension in filter.

Dimension elements and data cells can be drilled down with replacement of the dimension with available dimensions in filter:

If the selected sidehead/heading dimension does not have hierarchy or the lowest hierarchy level is reached, the following happens when the Drill Down item is selected:

Dimension in filter, depending on the set order, will be moved to sidehead/heading.
Selection of the replacement dimension will be saved or will become full if it was not set before.
Dimension from sidehead/heading with saved selection will be moved to filter, depending on the position of the replacement dimension before drilldown.

If the selected cell or cell range of sidehead/heading dimensions does not have hierarchy, the following happens when the Drill Down item is selected:

Dimension in filter, depending on the set order, will be moved to sidehead.
Selection of the replacement dimension will be saved or will become full if it was not set before.
The rightmost sidehead dimension with saved selection will be moved to filter, depending on the position of the replacement dimension before drilldown.

Drilldown into relational data is available:

For data cells obtained using fact dimension aggregation.
If sidehead dimension does not have hierarchy or the lowest hierarchy level is reached.
Dimensions that are available for drilldown are higher in the order than sidehead dimension.

After the Drill Down item is selected, the records from the fact table are displayed, by which cell value is created as a flat table. The Dimensions area on the Sources panel displays the Source Fields additional dimension located in columns and containing all fact table fields, including the fields that are linked to cube dimensions, and the Row Numbers dimension located in rows.

Second-Level Drilldown

To execute second-level drilldown, select the

Drill Down> <Dimension name> context menu item.

Drilldown by aggregated elements is available only when aggregation of fixed dimensions is set up.

To drill down data by aggregated elements:

Select a cell or cell range, which data was obtained as a result of aggregation of fixed dimensions.
Select the fixed dimension, which elements should be drilled down, in the drop-down list of the Drill Down context menu item.

After executing the operations the selected dimension is moved to the sidehead and contains the elements used for cell range aggregation.

Drillup

Depending on the level of the executed context menu command one can drill down the first ad the second levels.

NOTE. Drillup is unavailable if the selected data area range contains cells of different data sources and/or elements of different dimensions.

First-Level Drillup

First-level drillup includes drillup by hierarchy and drillup with replacement and fixing.

Data drillup is available only for the dimension elements, which have parent elements. Drillup moves to a higher level of dictionary hierarchy.

To drill up data by dimension elements:

Select:

One or several table sidehead or heading elements.
One or several table data cells.

Select the Drill Up context menu item.

After executing the operations all selected data is drilled up:

For dimension elements if they have parent elements.
For data cells if intersecting dimension elements in these cells have parent elements.

Second-Level Drillup

To execute second-level drillup, select the

Drill Up> <Dimension name> context menu item.

Drillup by aggregated elements is available only when aggregation of fixed dimensions is set up.

To drill up data by aggregated elements:

Select a cell or cell range, which data was obtained as a result of aggregation of fixed dimensions.
Select the sidehead dimension, which elements should be drilled up, in the drop-down list of the Drill Up context menu item.

After executing the operations the selected dimension becomes the fixed one, and all elements of this dimension are selected. In other dimensions' rows and columns selection is not changed according to the selected cell/cell range, for which drillup was executed.

Dimension Replacement

Replacement is also executed when the

Drill Down/

Drill Up item is selected when the lowest/highest hierarchy level is reached or when the dimension does not have hierarchy.

Moving to Level

Undoing the Last Step

To return to the previous step during drilldown, drillup, replacement, and moving to level, select the cell, cell range, one or several dimension elements and select the

Back context menu item.

Restoring to Original State

To undo all changes during drilldown, drillup, replacement, and moving to level, select a cell, cell range, one or several dimension elements and select the

To Original State context menu item.

Data Drilldown and Drillup
