Chart Axes: Regular report

To open the Category Axis (X), Value Axis (Y), and Value Axis (Secondary) group of parameters, select the chart and click the Parameters button on the toolbar, then select the required group.

To open the Value Axis (Secondary) group of parameters, select the chart, click the Parameters button on the toolbar, select the Plot on Secondary Axis checkbox for one or several chart series in the Data Series group of parameters and then select the group of parameters on the side panel.

It is available for value axis (Y), secondary axis, category axis (X) of bubble chart, and value axis (X) of scatter chart.

Select a method for setting maximum and minimum axis values in the drop-down list:

Auto. Default value. The value is calculated automatically based on source data.
Fixed. Set maximum or minimum values in the corresponding boxes.

It is available for the X and Y axes in all charts, except radar charts.

In the Crosses Y Axis/Crosses X Axis drop-down list specify the layout option for the category axis (X) or the value axis (Y):

Auto. Default value. It crosses the Y/X axis at the minimum value.
At the Specified Point. It crosses the Y/X axis at the specified point. Specify point value in the box.
Maximum Value. It crosses with Y/X axis in the maximum value. Value labels are outside the plot area.

It is available for the Y value axis in all charts, except radar charts, bubble charts, and scatter charts.

Select the Position Axis between Tick Marks checkbox to position axis between the specified point and the following one. The checkbox is deselected by default.

The checkbox is available if the At the Specified Point option is set for the Y axis.

It is available for all chart types, except radar charts.

To position axis categories/values in reverse order, select the Reverse Order of Categories/Values checkbox. If reverse order or categories is set, the Y axis is positioned at the right, and the secondary axis is positioned at the left. If reverse order of values is set, the X axis is positioned at the top. The checkbox is deselected by default.

Set up axis lines/gridlines:

Line Type. Select line type in the drop-down list.

Line Color. Select line color in the drop-down palette. One can select standard and custom colors. The palette contains only standard colors by default. To create a custom color, use the advanced color palette that is available after clicking the Add Color button. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

Line Width. Set the required line width using the keyboard or the value editor.

It is available for the X category axis in all charts, except radar charts, bubble charts, and scatter charts.

Set axis position option in the drop-down list:

On Categories. Category axis crosses value axis in the middle of the category.
Between Categories. Category axis crosses value axis at the beginning of the category. Default value.

It is available for all charts, except radar charts.

To show tick marks, select a line in the drop-down list.

It is available for all charts, except radar charts.

Select line solid fill color in the drop-down palette.

One can select standard and custom colors. The palette contains only standard colors by default. To create a custom color, use the advanced color palette that is available after clicking the Add Color button. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

It is available for all charts, except radar charts.

Set the required line width using the keyboard or the value editor.

It is available for the X category axis in all charts, except radar charts, bubble charts, and scatter charts.

Set tick marks position in the drop-down list:

On Categories. Tick marks are positioned in the middle of the category. Default value.
Between Categories. Tick marks are positioned at the beginning of the category.

It is available for value axis (Y), secondary axis, category axis (X) of bubble chart, and value axis (X) of scatter chart.

To set distance between tick marks, select options in the drop-down list:

Auto. Distance between tick marks is calculated automatically.
Fixed. Set the number of distances between tick marks in the box.
Guaranteed Distance. Set distance between tick marks in millimeters in the box.
Other. Select scale plot mode:

Clustering Scaling. The mode is used for non-uniform data, for example, there are values equal to 1 and 1000. The mode enables the user to display data, omitting uninformative scale intervals. The output scale becomes uneven, but the graph becomes more obvious.
In the box select absolute step of scaling expressed in scale units. If the increment of the next series relative to the previous one is greater, the increment on the scale is limited to this step. In this case series are considered in ascending order.
Distributed Scaling. This mode is similar to clustering, but the scaling step in the box is set in percents of difference between two sorted neighbor series.
Logarithmic Scale. Scale values are calculated with the base-10 logarithm depending on the available data.

Select one of the available fonts in the drop-down list. If required, one can load custom fonts.

Set the required font size. Size is set in points, it can be selected in the drop-down list or entered using the keyboard. The range of available values: [8; 72].

Select text color in the drop-down palette.

One can select standard and custom colors. The palette contains only standard colors by default. To create a custom color, use the advanced color palette that is available after clicking the Add Color button. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

Select font style:

B. Bold.
I. Italic.
U. Underline.

When the button is pressed, the corresponding font style is used. Several styles can be used simultaneously, for example, pressed B and I buttons result in bold italic font style.

Specify label rotation angle using the keyboard or the value editor.

It is available for the X axis. It is available for all charts, except radar charts, bubble charts, and scatter charts.

When the checkbox is selected, intervals between labels are calculated automatically.

It is available for the X axis of histograms, line charts, area charts, mixed charts, stepped charts, and stock exchange charts.

Select the Multilevel Category Labels checkbox to display multilevel labels. The checkbox is selected by default.

The checkbox is available:

If the range of point names is specified, if the chart is plotted on sheet data.
If the chart is plotted on object data.

If the following is selected:

Data from sheet: point names contain several rows/columns.
Object: the following is added in columns when the Series in Rows checkbox is selected or in rows when the Series in Rows checkbox is deselected:

More than one dimension.
Single dimension with hierarchy and the Level Elements to Separate Rows/Columns checkbox and/or the Multilevel Heading/Sidehead checkbox is selected for the table based on the same slice used for plotting the chart.

Then, when the checkbox is selected, labels will be shown in several levels corresponding to the number of rows/columns. A separator will also be added, separator formatting matches the axis line formatting.

The order of label names is taken from:

Sheet: it is determined with the position of rows/columns with point names.
Object: it is determined with the position of dimensions in columns/rows and/or with dimension hierarchy.

It is available for value axis (Y), secondary axis, category axis (X) of bubble chart, and value axis (X) of scatter chart.

Select format of axis values in the Format drop-down list.

Depending on the selected format, advanced settings of displaying values are available:

When the Number, Currency, Percentage or Exponential value format is selected, the Decimal Places box becomes available, in which determine the number of displayed decimal places using the value editor or the keyboard.
When the Currency value format is selected, the Symbol drop-down list becomes available, in which select the required currency.

It is available for value axis (Y), secondary axis, category axis (X) of bubble chart, and value axis (X) of scatter chart.

If it is required to display large values on the axis, they can be scaled. Therefore, they will occupy less space on the axis. Values are scaled according to the formula: X = A * B, where A is initial value, B - scale coefficient. Select data scaling coefficient in the Scale drop-down list:

None. Default value. B = 1.
Hundreds. B = 0.01.
Thousands. B = 0.001.
Millions. B = 0.000001.
Billions. B = 0.000000001.
Trillions. B = 0.000000000001.

For example, the axis displays the values: 45000, 46000, and so on. After the Thousands scale is applied, the axis displays the following values: 45, 46, and so on.

To automatically set caption position, select the Position Automatically checkbox. The checkbox is selected by default. When moving caption position this checkbox is automatically deselected. Moving of caption area is available for all chart types except the following: secondary pie charts, secondary histograms, 3D pie charts with absolute values, stock exchange charts, histograms with fluctuation intervals, box charts, box charts with linear series.

Axis captions are automatically placed near the axis. For the Y axis - vertically.

Set up font options:

Font. Select one of the available fonts in the drop-down list. If required, one can load custom fonts.
Font Size. Select the required font size. The size is set in points, and it can be selected in the drop-down list or entered manually. The range of available values: [8; 72].
Color. Select font color in the drop-down color palette. One can select standard and custom colors. The palette contains only standard colors by default.

To create a custom color:

Click the Add Color button. The advanced color palette opens.

Select a color in the advanced color palette, use color picker to select color on a browser page, or set color code in the RGB or HEX format.

After executing the operations the custom color is created and added to the palette.

NOTE. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23.

To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

Font Style. Select font style:

B. Bold. One can also use CTRL+B to set this option.
I. Italic. One can also use CTRL+I to set this option.
U. Underline. One can also use CTRL+U to set this option.

NOTE. As a rule, the CTRL+U hotkey combination is reserved in the browser for opening source code of the current page. To use this hotkey combination for underlining text, redefine its purpose in browser settings.

S. Strikethrough. One can also use ALT+SHIFT+5 for this purpose.

When the button is pressed, the corresponding font style is used. Several styles can be used simultaneously, for example, pressed B and I buttons result in bold italic font style.

Text Alignment. Set text alignment relative to caption borders:

Left. Default value. One can also use CTRL+SHIFT+L to set this option.
Center. One can also use CTRL+SHIFT+E to set this option.
Right. One can also use CTRL+SHIFT+R to set this option.

NOTE. As a rule, the CTRL+SHIFT+R combination of keys is reserved for refreshing of the current browser page. To use this hotkey combination for aligning text to the right, redefine its purpose in browser settings.

Only one option can be selected.

To set up caption area background, select the fill type in the drop-down list:

No Fill. Default value. Fill is not used.
Solid Fill. Select solid fill color in the drop-down palette. If required, specify fill opacity percent.
Two-Color Fill. Select start and end gradient colors in the drop-down palette. If required, specify tilt angle and fill opacity percent.
Hatching Fill. Execute the operations:

Select solid fill color in the drop-down palette. If required, specify fill color and hatching color transparency percent.
Select texture option in the Hatching drop-down list.
Select hatching color in the drop-down color palette.

One can select standard and custom colors in the drop-down palette. The palette contains only standard colors by default. To create a custom color, use the advanced color palette that is available after clicking the Add Color button. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

To reset the specified fill settings, click the Delete button.

To set up caption area border, set:

Line Type. Select line type in the drop-down list.
Line Color. Select line color in the drop-down palette. One can select standard and custom colors. The palette contains only standard colors by default. To create a custom color, use the advanced color palette that is available after clicking the Add Color button. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

Line Width. Set the required line width using the keyboard or the value editor.

To reset the specified border settings, click the Delete button.

Set up font parameters:

Font. Select one of the available font styles in the drop-down list. If required, one can load custom fonts.

Color. Click the Font Color button and select text color in the drop-down color palette. One can select standard and custom colors. The palette contains only standard colors by default. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

NOTE. Color of the Font Color button changes for the selected color.

Font Style. Select font style in the drop-down list:

B. Bold. One can also use CTRL+B to set this font style.
I. Italic. One can also use CTRL+I to set this font style.
U. Underline. One can also use CTRL+U to set this font style.

To set up title area fill, click the Fill Color button. The color palette opens. Select a fill method:

No Fill. Click the No Color button. Fill is not used by default.
Solid Fill. Open the Single Color tab, select solid fill color and specify opacity percent if required.
Two-Color Fill. Open the Two Colors tab and select start and end colors of two-color gradient. If required, specify opacity percent and tilt angle.

NOTE. If solid fill is selected, color indication of the Fill Color button changes to the selected color, and if two-color fill is selected, it changes to the gradient.

To create a custom color, use the advanced color palette that is available after clicking the Add Color button. The maximum possible number of custom colors in the palette is 23. To delete custom color from the palette, select the Delete item in the selected color's context menu.

To determine a method for inside cell alignment, use the Alignment group of settings.

Set the caption alignment option:

Left. The title is aligned to the left area border.
Center. The title is positioned at equal distance from the left and right area borders.
Right. The title is aligned to the right area border.
