Working with Calculated Series: Microsoft Excel Add-In

In the time series data analysis mode, the Foresight Excel Add-In enables the user to create series calculated with the specified method.

If the calculation method requires that the series have identical frequencies, the following parameters are checked for correspondence:

Series frequencies.
Series start dates.
Series lengths.
Day when a week starts (for weekly and daily frequency).
Days off (for daily frequency).

The series are calculated if they have the same frequency, otherwise an error message is displayed.

Depending on the executed transformation, a calculated series can contain different sets of child series: facts, a modeling series with forecasting values, remainders, confidence limits, and so on. For example:

If any errors occurred during series calculation, the calculation is aborted. The calculated series will be filled with empty values, the red corner is displayed in the cell with calculated series header:

Hover the cursor over series heading to read error message. The message is displayed as a tooltip.

To view summary statistics:

Select a calculated series in the data table.
Go to the results panel.

To set up parameters of several calculated series:

Select the calculated series, for which parameter settings should be set, in the data table.
Go to the Series group of tabs on the side panel.

This group of tabs displays the Primary side panel tab and tabs containing general series settings.

Values of parameters on the tabs will be specified as follows:

The Several Rows value will be displayed in the Name box. Names of several rows are not available to edit.
If different settings were determined for selected calculated series, for which it is supposed to select the checkbox, for example, Edit Measurement Unit and Apply Transformation, the checkbox will look as , the boxes will display the Different Units and Different Transformations values, respectively. Clicking the checkbox resets parameter value.
To set similar parameters, select the checkbox and determine the required parameter value. If parameters are not set for the selected series, checkboxes next to the parameter names are deselected.
If setting of parameters does not require selecting checkboxes, the Multiple Values message is displayed on values mismatch.
Corresponding values can be displayed on the Series Attributes tab of the side panel next to series attributes.
If existence of parameters for different calculated series differs, tabs with settings of such parameters are not displayed on selecting these series. For example, the Parameters tab is not displayed for the series calculated with different methods.
If the forecasting period is not set up for calculated series of different types or the same forecasting series is set up, the Calculation Periods tab is displayed.
