Requirements for Topobase Availability

A topobase is a TBS or SVG file, which is converted in various formats on loading to repository. The required format is selected automatically depending on where a topobase is used and which settings are selected for it. To display data, the default topobase specified in the current repository is used.

A topobase contains map data as a set of layers. Each layer is described by special attributes and presents a single class of map data. For example, a layer with city coordinates or a layer describing country borders.

Operations with Topobase

To load a topobase to the object navigator:

In the desktop application:

Click the New Object > Other > Map button in the Create group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Create > Other > Map item in the object navigator's context menu.

In the web application:

Click the Create button in the main menu.
Select the Map object on the New Object side panel.

After executing the operations the standard file selection dialog box opens. Select topobase file with the *.tbs or *.svg extension. Before loading the file with the *.svg extension prepare SVG topobase.

NOTE. A topobase is automatically converted on loading. If a topobase is loaded to the repository using PROGNOZ 5 tools, it should be converted.

A default topobase can be selected for repository. It will be used to show a map in all reports. Working with a report provides a possibility to replace default topobase with any other topobase.

A default topobase can be selected using the Fore language.

NOTE. Selecting a default topobase is available only in the desktop application.

To replace a topobase data, select the Load from File item in the map's context menu of the object navigator.

After executing the operation the standard file selection dialog box opens. Select topobase file with the *.tbs or *.svg extension, which data should be loaded to the current topobase.

To save topobase data to a *.tbs or *.svg file in the object navigator:

In the desktop application:

Select the Save to File item in the topobase's context menu. A standard dialog box to save the file on the local disk opens. Select the extension, in which to save the file, and path.

In the web application:

Select the Save to File > SVG/TBS item in the topobase's context menu. Automatic loading of the file with selected extension starts.

When a topobase is loaded to the repository, it is automatically converted.

It is required to manually convert a topobase, if:

A map was loaded to the repository using PROGNOZ 5 tools.
Zoom is not available for a map, timeline is not displayed and 3D mode is not available.

To convert a topobase, select the Convert Topobase item in the topobase's context menu of the object navigator. The map topobase is converted to the following formats:

SVG/TBS. The format depends on the topobase in use.
Triangulate. The format is designed for using 3D maps.
Google. The format is used for connecting external map services as Google Maps, Bing, and so on.
Sphere. The format is used for supporting spherical maps (in the form of a globe).

NOTE. In the web application a topobase can be converted only to SVG and TBS.

A topobase can also be converted using the ITopobase.Convert method.
