Data Validation

Validation is time series data checking for correspondence to the specified conditions and limits.

Data is validated according to validation rules. For sequential execution of a number of validation rules they can be combined into a group.

NOTE. Validation is available for express reports, dashboard tables, data areas in regular reports if they are built on a time series database. standard or automatic cube with a calendar dimension. When working with global cache is used, data validation is not available.

All validation rules and groups are displayed on the Validation Rules side panel tab.

Make sure that the side panel is displayed.
Select the radio button on the side panel:

Source. The radio button in express report.
Data. The radio button in dashboard.
Document. The radio button in regular report.

Go to the Validation Rules tab.

Working with Validation Rules

To display the Validation Rules tab, make sure that the side panel is displayed and execute one of the operations:

Working with the tab is similar to working with the Validation Rules tab of time series analysis.

NOTE. When a report is opened in the view mode, working with validation rules is available only via the ribbon.

General Operations with Validation Rules/Groups of Rules

To create a validation rule:

Click the Create > Validation Rule button on the Validation Rules side panel tab.
Select the Create > Validation Rule item in the context menu of the repository object on the Validation Rules side panel tab.

The Validation Rule dialog box opens. The created rule is saved to the time series database but is not executed.

Use the Validation Rules side panel tab. To set up the selected validation rule:

Click the Edit button.
Select the Edit item in the rule's context menu.
Double-click the validation rule.
Press F4. The option is available only in the desktop application.

The Validation Rule dialog box opens.

To create a group of validation rules:

Click the Create > Group of Validation Rules button.
Select the Create > Group of Validation Rules context menu item of the repository object on the side panel tab.

The New Validation Group dialog box opens.

Use the Validation Rules side panel tab. To set up parameters of the selected group of validation rules:

Click the Edit button.
Select the Edit item in the group's context menu.
Double-click the group of validation rules.
Press F4. The option is available only in the desktop application.

The dialog box to edit the selected group opens.

A validation rule/group of validation rules can be executed:

In the current dashboard block.
On the current express report sheet.
On the current data area of regular report.

To execute a rule or group of rules, use:

The Validation Rules side panel tab.

Select a rule or group of rules.
Click the Run button or select the item with the same name in the context menu.

The Advanced Analytics ribbon tab.

Click the Validation button.
In the menu that opens select the required rule or group.

Data validation is executed in the specified area.

TIP. To execute rule or group of rules on the current sheet of express report in the web application, drag the rule or group of rules to the sheet.

To work with validation results, use the Advanced Analytics ribbon tab.

To delete a rule/group of rules selected on the Validation Rules side panel tab:

Click the Delete button.
Select the Delete item in the object's context menu.
Press CTRL+DELETE. The option is available only in the desktop application.

A confirmation will be required.

To move validation rules/groups of validation rules:

Select a rule/group of rules on the Validation Rules side panel tab.
Use the following context menu items: Copy, Cut, or Paste.

To create a folder to store validation rules/groups of validation rules:

Go to the Validation Rules side panel tab.
Select the element, in which a folder should be created.
Click the Create > Folder button or select the item with the same name in the context menu.

A folder is created in the selected element.

To search for a validation rule/group of validation rules, use the search field in the upper part of the Validation Rules side panel tab. Enter the name of the required rule/group of rules in the search field. The tab contains only rules/groups of rules corresponding to the search conditions.

To reset search results, clear the search field.

To rename a rule/group of rules selected on the Validation Rules side panel tab:

Select the Rename context menu item.
Click the selected rule/group of rules.
Press F2. The option is available only in the desktop application and in express report in the web application.

The name of the rule/group of rules is switched to the edit mode. To finish editing, press the ENTER key.

Working with Validation Results

Exceptions are revealed on executing a validation rule. Exceptions are observations or time series not corresponding to the validation rule condition.

If a validation rule was executed, exceptions will be displayed in the validation execution area. Exceptions formatting style depends on validation rule settings.

After validation is executed, the Advanced Analytics ribbon tab is used to work with exceptions.

To quickly navigate between exceptions in the data table, use the buttons on the Advanced Analytics ribbon tab:

. It selects the previous exception.
. It selects the next exception.
. It selects the first exception.
. It selects the last exception.

Navigation is executed relative to the currently selected cell.

A legend is used to demonstrate exception formatting style in validation rules.

To show a legend, click the Legend button on the Advanced Analytics ribbon tab. A legend contains exception formatting styles and names of only those rules, which have found exceptions.

To hide a legend, release the Legend button.

NOTE. The Reports tool allows for setup only in the desktop application.
