Groups of Elements: Dictionaries

A group of elements is a repository object used in dictionaries to limit the list of available elements. Groups of elements are created as dictionary children and are not shown in the object navigator.

Element groups can be used in Foresight Analytics Platform tools to select elements of the dimension based on the specified dictionary.

An element group primitive is a collection of dictionary elements combined by some common characteristic.

NOTE. Adding and removing of MDM dictionary elements included into group of elements, and also using of groups of elements in various operations do not depend on whether default hierarchy is selected. Groups of elements of MDM dictionaries work only with main dictionary elements. It is unavailable to create a group go elements on default alternative hierarchies.

Element groups can be managed in the Element Groups dialog box available from tools and object navigator of Foresight Analytics Platform: Dashboards, Analytical Queries (OLAP), Reports.

To open the Groups of Elements dialog box from the object navigator, select the Groups of Elements item in the context menu of the required dictionary.

To open the Element Groups dialog box from tools of Foresight Analytics Platform tools:

Go to the Selection side panel tab.
Select the Edit item in the drop-down menu:

The Select Group button located on the Selection ribbon tab.
The Advanced Selection > Select Group item in the context menu of the dimension element on the side panel.
The Advanced Selection > Select Level item in the dimension menu on the side panel.
The Group of Elements button in the View group on the Hierarchy ribbon tab.

To create a new group of elements, select the [New Group] element in the Group of Elements drop-down list.

To edit an existing group of elements, select it in the Group of Elements drop-down list.

To add a primitive in the selected group, click the Add button and select required primitive:

Elements from the List. Selected list elements will be included into the primitive.
Level Elements. Elements of selected dictionary levels should be included into the primitive.
Elements by Common Owner. Both selected elements and their child elements should be included into the primitive.
Use Application Macro. The element group contents is dynamically based on macro execution result.

Several primitives can be added for one group of elements.

To edit properties of the selected primitive, click the Edit button or double-click the primitive name.

The Edit Primitive dialog box opens, which contents depends on the primitive type:

Elements from the List. The Edit Primitive dialog box displays all dictionary elements, for example:

Select required elements. Use the context menu to select elements.

Level Elements. The Edit Primitive dialog box displays all dictionary elements, for example:

Select checkboxes next to names of the required levels.

Elements by Common Owner. The Edit Primitive dialog box displays all dictionary elements, for example:

Select required elements. Use the context menu to select elements.

The final collection of dictionary elements is created by uniting or intersecting the elements contained in separate primitives.

After adding primitives select the type of primitives relationships in the drop-down list above the primitives list:

Union. In case of primitives interaction the list will include all elements obtained as a result of primitives work (a single copy).
Intersection. In case of primitives interaction the list will include elements that are contained in the result of each primitive.

To delete a primitive, click the Delete button under the list of primitives.

To save a selected group of elements, click the Save As button in the same level with the Group of Elements field.

In the opened window specify name and identifier of the selection schema.

To delete a selected group of elements from the Group of Elements list, click the Delete button in the same level with this field.

On creating a group of elements, determine a primitive based on application macros which will generate a group of elements according to results of its execution, taking into account:

Macro must be a static (Shared) method of a class
Macros signature must look as follows:

Parameters:
Dimension. Open dictionary instance.

Result: selection of elements, which should be used to form a group.

On creating and editing a primitive that uses macro to select dictionary element group, the Method of Element Selection dialog box opens:

The dialog box shows a list of available Fore and Fore.NET assemblies, forms and units. The Methods area displays the class tree of the object selected in the repository list.

The Methods area displays the child elements (methods) for each class if they correspond with the required signature. If no methods are available, the class is not displayed.

Double-click the method to select it and close the dialog box.

On clicking the OK button, the Create Elements from Macro primitive is added to the primitive list. The OK button is available if:

The method is selected from the method list.
In the method list the only one method is displayed.
