Installing Web Application on Windows OS

The page contains the procedure of installing web application and web application back end on Windows OS.

Preparation

Installing and Setting Up BI Server

The BI server must be installed by means of an installer under the user who has local computer administrator permissions.

Prognoz Platform 9 distribution kit includes BI server installers for various web servers:

NOTE. The distribution kit may include the folder containing prerequisites and MSI installers of the help system. Prerequisites and help system installation features are described in the Prognoz Platform 9 Distribution Kit section. Installing several distribution kits of one release is forbidden.

As a result, the installer installs a BI server and the Prognoz Platform 9 desktop application.

A BI server can be installed to a web server that does not contain a web application. Later, install and set up the web application to the same or to another web server.

If BI server installation is correct, virtual directories are created in the system:

PPBI_App_v9.0x64. Virtual directory of BI server.
PPMobile_App_v9.0x64. Virtual directory of mobile application.

After the installation is complete, share the access to the Pub folder contained in the PPMobile_App_v9.0x64 virtual directory. To do this, add the Everyone user in the Access folder properties and provide for him full control and access to the folder.

After the installation the BI server becomes available at the following URL:

http://<workstation>[:<port>]/<BI server_directory>/axis2/services/PP.SOM.Som.

Where: <workstation> - the name of the workstation where the IIS based web server is operating; <port> - number of the port, via which the work is executed (80 by default); <BI server_directory> - the virtual directory created by the installer for the BI server.

Determine the following settings after installing the BI server on Apache web server. For detailed description of settings see the Setting Up Apache section.

After the installation and setup the BI server becomes available at the following URL:

http://<work_station>:<port_number>/axis2/services/PP.SOM.Som.

Where <work_station> - name of the work station, at which Apache web server is operating; <port_number> - port number set by the user, where the BI server is available.

IMPORTANT. If BI server is installed on Apache web server, it is necessary to install another BI server on the IIS web server to work with a mobile application container. Each web server must be located at a separate workstation.

Working with Installers

To start the installation, start the BI installer. The process of installing BI server on the IIS web server is similar to the process of installing BI server on Apache web server.

After starting the installer checks if there is an earlier build of Prognoz Platform 9 version:

Select the language, which is used in installer interface:

The installer checks if there is an additional software (prerequisites) at the workstation. If the required prerequisite is not installed, or only an earlier version is available on the computer, the system prompts to install it:

To start prerequisites installation, click the Install button. Clicking the Install button will install all the available components one by one. If the required prerequisite is not available in the ISSetupPrerequisites folder, BI server installation stops and system reports that the requested files cannot be found.

If the required prerequisites are included into the distribution kit, the Status column shows setup status for each of the components: successful, installing, pending.

System restart may be required after some prerequisites are installed. Answer Yes to restart or No to continue with the installation. After this message appears, it is recommended to restart your workstation as it is required for proper installation of the remaining prerequisites and BI Server. After restarting the installation will continue automatically: a dialog box to continue prerequisite installation opens, or installation of the BI server will continue.

Extracting required files:

Click the Cancel button to abort installation.

If required files are extracted, the background information is displayed:

To go to the installation parameters setup, click the Next button.

This operation will be executed if earlier versions of Prognoz Platform 9 or PROGNOZ 5 are installed at this workstation.

Select the next action:

Delete All Previous Versions. All earlier versions of the PROGNOZ 5 and Prognoz Platform will be deleted from the computer.
Keep All Previous Versions. All existing versions of PROGNOZ 5 and Prognoz Platform are kept.

Select the folder, where Prognoz Platform 9 will be installed:

By default, Prognoz Platform 9 is supposed to be installed to the folder C:\Program Files\Foresight\.

Click the Change button to change the installation folder. The dialog box opens, in which select the required folder.

NOTE. This operation is executed if BI server is installed on Apache web server.

Specify the folder where Apache web server is installed:

The Set Apache Thread Stack Size to 512 Kb checkbox enables the user to change stack size in the configuration file of Apache web server. This is necessary for correct execution of BI server queries.

NOTE. Changing of stack size may affect the work of other applications that use Apache web server.

Select the most appropriate type of installation:

The following installation types are available:

Complete. Default type of installation. A complete set of features will be installed on the workstation. This installation type is recommended for the most cases, but requires more hard disk space.
Custom. The features specified by the user will be installed on the workstation. This installation type is recommended for advanced users only.
After selecting the Custom installation type next select the features to install:

The following features can be installed:

Common Files. Files and libraries required to ensure correct performance of all features.
Repository Builder. This unit works with the existing repository.
DBMS Support. A collection of system libraries required to support DBMS (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, OLE DB, Db2, Teradata, PostgreSQL, SQLite).
Security Manager. This module implements a set of tools to control the integrity of the application system and the information stored in this system.
Repository Manager. The unit that is used to automate the process of updating Prognoz Platform 9 versions and repository versions.
Application Server. BI server. If BI server is installed on the web server, this feature includes the configuration for IIS.

NOTE. Some features are mandatory, and their installation cannot be disabled.

For integrity check select the Check Control Sums Every Time Prognoz Platform Runs checkbox at each restart. This enables the user to check executable files for integrity and their correspondence to the standard at each restart. The checkbox is deselected by default, and integrity check is not executed. This setting is applied only for Prognoz Platform 9 version to be installed.

Select the feature to install in the list to view information on the disk space required to install the feature. The information will be displayed in the Feature Description area.

Click the Space button to view information on the disk space required to install the selected features, and the workstation free disk space. The information will be displayed about the hard disk partitions, their size, free disk space and the size required to install the selected features.

The installer is ready for installation:

Click the Install button to start the installation.

All required features are installed and set up:

Click the Cancel button to abort installation.

Licenses

Prognoz Platform 9 checks license when running. To work in the web application, activate Prognoz Platform 9 at BI server. The web application can be activated at the BI server only by using a network or temporary stand-alone license. Using network license requires to install a license server in the same network where BI server is installed.
