Using Private Dimensions

If a visualizer uses several data sources, all dimensions of data sources are divided in the following groups:

Originally, on setting up data display from several data sources shared dimension selection and private dimension selection from the first data source corresponds to the selection configured in the data sources in use. Private dimension selection of the second and next data sources corresponds to the selection from saved views of the data sources in use.

When moving a dimension from shared to private ones the selection in all private dimension will correspond to the selection in shared dimensions; when moving a dimension from private to fixed ones only the first element is selected.

Shared dimensions are displayed in the Dimensions area/on the tabs in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel. Private dimensions are grouped on the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private panel/tab.

Make sure that the visualizer uses several data sources:

In regular reports use the Set Up Data Source dialog box.
In express reports and dashboards select the Multiple Sources checkbox on the Data Sources tab in the Source/Data group of tabs on the side panel.

Execute one of the operations:

To show the Private Dimensions panel/tab, drag the dimension from shared to private.
To show the Fixed Private Dimensions panel/tab, drag the dimension from shared to private and fix it.

Working with private dimension elements is similar to working with elements of shared dimensions, except for features described below.

To fix a private dimension:

In regular reports select the private dimension on the Private Dimensions panel and execute one of the operations:

Select the To Fixed Private item in the private dimension's context menu.
Select the To Fixed Private item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button.

In express reports and dashboards select the In Fixed Privates item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the private dimension name on the Private Dimensions tab.

After executing the operations the private dimension is fixed. To work with fixed private dimensions, use the Fixed Private Dimensions panel/tab. Working with this panel/tab is similar to working with the Private Dimensions panel/tab.

NOTE. If aggregation option is not selected, after the dimension is fixed, only one dimension element selection is available.

To unfix a private dimension:

In regular reports select the fixed private dimension on the Fixed Private panel and execute one of the operations:

Select the To Private item in the private dimension's context menu.
Select the To Private item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button.

In express reports and dashboards select the In Private item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button locvated below the private dimension name on the Fixed Private Dimensions tab.

After executing the operations the private dimension is unfixed. To work with private dimensions, use the Private Dimensions panel/tab.

Creating a composite is available only in express reports and dashboards dimension.

A composite dimension is a dimension consisting of the elements selected in private dimensions.

To create a composite dimension, select the As a Composite Dictionary checkbox on the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private Dimensions tab.

A composite dimension is a tree consisting of selected elements of private dimensions. One can change selection, search, and sort elements in a composite dimension.

Deleting composite dimension is available only in express reports and dashboards.

To delete a composite dimension, deselect the As a Composite Dictionary checkbox on the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private Dimensions tab.

Moving a dimension from shared to private is available if data source contains several shared dimensions.

To move a dimension from shared to private:

In regular reports select the shared dimension in the Dimensions area on the control panel and execute one of the operations:

Select the To Private item in the dimension's context menu.
Select the To Private item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button.

In express reports and dashboards select the In private Dimensions item in the drop-down menu of the By Columns button, the By Rows button, or the Fixed button located to the left of the dimension name in the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

After executing the operations the shared dimension is converted into a private one and moved to the Private Dimensions panel/tab.

To move a dimension from private to shared:

In regular reports select the private dimension on the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private panel and execute one of the operations:

Select the To Shared item in the private dimension's context menu.
Select the To Shared item in the drop-down menu of the Actions button.

In express reports and dashboards select the In Shared Dimensions item in the drop-down menu of the By Columns button, the By Rows button, or the Fixed button located to the left of the private dimension name on the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private Dimensions tab.

After executing the operations the private dimension is converted into a shared one and moved to the Dimensions area on the control panel/the Selection tab on the side panel.

Dimension generalization is available only in express reports and dashboards if a shared dimension was converted into a private one.

Generalization is excluding a shared dimension from private dimensions.

To generalize dimensions:

Select the In Shared Dimensions item in the drop-down menu of the By Columns button, the By Rows button, or the Fixed button located to the left of the name of the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private Dimensions tab.

After executing the operation the Dimension Generalization dialog box opens:

Select checkboxes next to the dimensions that should be converted to shared ones and click the OK button.

After executing the operations the private dimensions are converted into shared ones and moved to the Selection group of tabs on the side panel.

Reordering private dimensions is available only in express reports and dashboards.

To reorder private dimensions on the Private Dimensions/Fixed Private Dimensions tab:

Use Drag&Drop.
Use the Up and Up, Down, or Swap With item in the drop-down menu of the Settings button located below the private dimension name.
