To work with the tool in Foresight Analytics Platform 10, use the new interface.

Setting Up Sorting

The settings for sorting the rows and columns of the data area are the same, but are set on separate pages of the dialog box.

Both general sorting parameters of data area rows (columns) and dimension-determined sorting parameters are available.

NOTE. Dimension-determined sorting parameters are set up in the same way as the sorting parameters, that depend on the layout area (by rows or by columns). Dimension-determined sorting parameters have higher priority and thus can override general sorting parameters defined for the area (rows or columns).

To set up sorting, go to the Sorting tab of the Data Area Properties dialog box. The dialog box looks as follows:

Depending on the selected area (rows, columns or dimensions), the checkbox can be named:

Allow Sorting in Rows. If row area is selected.
Allow Sorting in Columns. If column area is selected.
Allow Sorting in Dimension. If a dimension shown in rows or columns is selected.

When the checkbox is selected, sorting parameters are available. If the checkbox is deselected, the selected area or dimension is not sorted.

If the Descending checkbox is selected, elements of the selected area (rows, columns or dimension) are sorted in descending order. If the checkbox is deselected, the elements are sorted in ascending order.

If the Do not Consider Non-Numeric Values checkbox is selected, all non-numeric values are placed to the end of the sorting area. If the checkbox is deselected, empty elements are not used in sorting, and non-numeric values are placed at the beginning of the sorting area.

This area includes sorting methods that become active on selecting the corresponding radio button:

Inside Hierarchy Branch. When this method is used, child elements at each level are sorted without breaking the hierarchy:

By Hierarchy Levels. When this method is used, child elements at each level are sorted with breaking the hierarchy:

Breaking Hierarchy. When this method is used, all the elements are sorted with breaking the hierarchy:

This area includes sorting types that become active on selecting the corresponding radio button:

Dimension Element. Select dimension that contains the element, by which sorting is executed. Then select the element itself in the Selected Element combobox. Selection has to be executed in the opposite dimension, that is, for row sorting, the element has to be selected in a column, and vice versa.
Column/Row. Specify number of row or column, by which sorting is executed. The row or column numbers can be positive or negative. Positive numbers start from zero. Negative numbers start from the number of the last row or column with a minus sign (-); that is why the number of rows or columns must be defined in advance.
Element Name. When this sorting type is used, elements are sorted in alphabetical order. The sorting order may be ascending or descending.
Attribute Value. Select one of the attributes, defined in dimension, in the combobox.
