To use global variables in the Server, Schema/Database boxes on the Database Properties page:
In the web application click the Edit button in the required box.
In the desktop application select the Edit item in the drop-down list of the required box. By default, the Server drop-down list contains the %METABASE_SERVER% variable, and the Schema/Database list contains the %METABASE_DATABASE% variable.
After executing one of the operations the Edit <server name/schema name/database identifier> dialog box in the web application or the Edit dialog box in the desktop application.
To specify the expression used for creating a server/schema/database identifier name, insert a global variable from the Global Variables list to the Value box. To do this:
Select the global variable in the Global Variables list.
Execute one of the operations:
Click the Insert button.
Double-click the global variable.
Select the Insert item in the global variable's context menu. It is available only in the desktop application.
After executing the operations the global variable value is inserted to the Value box, global variable value will be used as a server/schema/database identifier name.
To manage global variables, click the Edit button. The Edit Global Variables dialog box opens that is similar to the Global Variables page.
NOTE. Global variables can be managed in the Edit Global Variables dialog box is available only in the web application. To manage global variables in the desktop application, use the Global Variables tab in the Parameters dialog box.
