Controlling Dimensions: Calculated cube

If the cube contains parametric dimensions, one can set up control over parameters of these dimensions via the cube dimensions. In this case values of specific attributes should be passed as parameter values.

TIP. Controlling dimensions should be set up if the cube is used as an indicator in a data entry form, it has parametric dimensions and it is required to control these dimensions using other cube dimensions.

To set a controlling dimension, set the required parameters in corresponding columns on the Controlling Dimensions page.

Select the selection control strategy:

Select all elements in the controlled dimension.
Reset selection in the controlled dimension.
Select the elements, which are selected before control.
Select the first element.
Select the last element.

Clicking the

Clear button clears controlling dimension and expression for the selected controlled parameter.

To manage source cube parameters using controlling dimensions of calculated cube:

Make sure that the source cube contains a parameter that is sent to query.
Select a controlling dimension.
Set the controlling expression that will be used to manage source cube parameter. For example, the FIRST.ID expression means that identifier of the first element selected in the controlling dimension selection is to be sent to the controlled source cube parameter.
Select the Disable Nested Parameters Management when Editing Formulas checkbox if required. If the checkbox is selected, parameters management via a controlling dimension is disabled for all dimensions, in which parameters can be sent using two methods on editing formulas. The checkbox is deselected by default.

NOTE. The checkbox is available if both mechanisms of parameter values specification are set up in the cube: via expression in nested object management and via controlling dimension mechanism.

Expression Editor

The expression editor window for setting up a controlling dimension parameter of a calculated cube looks as follows:

Operands, arithmetic operations, functions, numbers, comparison characters and round brackets can be used in a formula. There are some features of use:

All element types, except for numbers, can be inserted both using the keyboard or special panels.
Numbers are inserted only using the keyboard.

Operands are displayed on the expression editor's operands panel:

Controlling dictionary attributes are used as operands, the functions are displayed for each of them:

First. Value of the first element attribute in the existing controlling dimension selection is sent to the parameter.
Last. Value of the last element attribute in the existing controlling dimension selection is sent to the parameter.
All. The function sends the array of attribute values of all elements existing in the controlling dimension selection. This function should not be used as it is. It is required to pass the array of values to a custom function, which calculates the value and passes it to the parameter of the controlling dimension.

To insert an operand to the formula area, execute one of the operations:

Using the operands panel:

Select the operand and click the Insert into Formula button.
Double-click the operand.
Drag the operand to the formula area.

Using the formula area:

Enter the operand name in the formula area.
Click in the formula area in the place where the operand should be inserted, press CTRL+SHIFT and select the required operand on the popup panel.

To quickly search for an operand, start typing partial or full name of the operand in the search string. After executing the operation the operands panel displays the operands, which names satisfy search conditions.

To set up displaying of the operands list, use items in the drop-down menu of the Display Settings button:

Name. Default value. Only operand names are displayed.
Identifier. Only operand identifiers are displayed.
Name and Identifier. Operand names and identifiers are displayed in the format: <name> (<identifier>).

To hide the operands panel, click the Hide Operands Panel button. To show the panel, click the Show Operands Panel button.
