Creating a Menu Structure and Setting Up Display Parameters

Display parameters for side panel items in the business application are set up in the Navigation Structure section in the web application or in the Menu Structure section in the desktop application of the designer of business applications. Menu structure is used to set up display parameters of:

IMPORTANT. When identifier of the Menu Structure folder is changed, displaying of working area objects is not available .

Open the selected business application for edit:

In the web application:

Select the Edit item in the business application's context menu.
Press F4.

In the desktop application:

Click the Edit button on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the business application's context menu.
Press F4.

NOTE. The child elements hierarchy can be of any nesting level, but the web application side menu displays only two-level hierarchical structure.

Setting Up Display Parameters for Side Menu Items

To set up displaying of side menu items, select a folder or object in the menu structure and set the parameters:

Set an alternative name displayed only in the web application, for a folder or object of the first or the second nesting level if required. Alternative name can be used if folders that are menu items have long names and their names cannot be fully displayed in the web application side menu, and for translation folder or object names into different languages.

NOTE. When the Do Not Display display parameter is set for a folder or object, the Name Displayed in Navigation Bar box becomes disabled.

Specify web page URL for a folder or object of the first or second nesting level if required. The specified web page will open in a separate windows on clicking the folder or object.

NOTE. When the Do Not Display display parameter is set for an object or folder, the URL of Opened Web Page box becomes disabled.

Determine display parameter in the navigation bar:

The following display parameters are available for the first-level folder:

As Menu Group. The web application side menu will display folder as a group, which can be expanded or collapsed.
As Menu Element. The web application side menu displays folder as a menu element. Additionally, the element contents type in the navigator is specified: small icons, large icons, extra large icons, list, table.
Do Not Display. The folder is displayed in the web application working area and not in the side menu. Additionally, specify the element appearance in the navigator: standard icon, thumbnail (object preview), specified thumbnail.

NOTE. If this folder contains an objectthat is set for a custom button in a data entry form, then on its opening using the custom button, side and navigation menu will not be displayed. For details see the Features of Displaying Elements subsection.

Similar settings - As Menu Group, As Menu Element, Do Not Display - are available for a single object located in the business application root.

The second-level folder has display parameters depending on the first-level folder settings:

If the As Menu Group option is selected for the parent folder, the As Menu Element and Do Not Display options are available for the second-level folder.
If the parent folder is set up As Menu Element or Do Not Display, the Do Not Display options is available for the second-level folder.

NOTE. The second-level folder cannot have the As Menu Group display parameter.

The third-level folders and folders with more nesting levels can have the same display parameters as for web application working area objects.

To set the order of displaying folders or objects of the same level with the As Menu Group and As Menu Element display parameters, use the Move Up and Move Down side menu buttons.

In the desktop application use Drag&Drop to move the created folder to another place.

If required, side menu item icons. The section becomes available after the Display Icons in Navigation Bar checkbox is selected on the Layout and Formatting page and is displayed for menu items of the first and second level, for which the As Menu Group or As Menu Item value is set in the Display in Navigation Bar radio button.

To set an icon, click the Select button and select the required image. To reset the specified icon, click the Clear button.

NOTE. A custom icon can be set only in the desktop application.

If some elements do not have custom icons or they are reset, the side menu displays default icons for them:

- for the first level.
- for the second level.

NOTE. To disable displaying of icons for side menu second-level items, select the Disable Displaying of Hierarchy Second-Level Icons on the Layout and Formatting page.

Setting Up Displaying of Objects in Web Application Working Area

Before setting up user objects display parameters in the web application working area, make sure that their shortcuts are added to folders with menu structure. Display parameters of objects in the web application working area can be set up in the Navigation Structure section in the web application or in the Menu Structure section of the designer of business applications:

To add a predefined thumbnail:

Click the Select button. The Select Thumbnail dialog box opens:

Select the string with thumbnail option in the list and click the Select button:

As a result, the specified thumbnail is displayed for the selected web application working area object.

To edit the predefined thumbnail, click the Edit Thumbnail button and edit the thumbnail in the Load/Edit Thumbnail dialog box that opens.

To delete the preinstalled thumbnail, click the Delete Thumbnail button.

To add a new thumbnail:

Click the Select button. The Select Thumbnail dialog box opens:

Click the Load Thumbnail button. The Load/Edit Thumbnail dialog box opens:

Set new thumbnail parameters:

Name. Enter thumbnail name.
Identifier. Enter thumbnail identifier.

Load images with appropriate size:

Small. 16*16 pixels.
Average. 32*32 pixels.
Large. 256*256 pixels.

NOTE. If the size of loaded images differs from the specified one, it will be automatically modified to the required one.

If required, delete the loaded thumbnail image using the Clear button.
Click the Save button to save the thumbnail.

As a result, the specified thumbnail is displayed for the selected web application working area object.

Page layout with one navigation bar (side menu) is displayed by default on creating a business application. If it is required to change title bar displaying, formatting, bar hiding, set up page layout and formatting. Layout and formatting can be set up after executing all steps of business application creation.

After creating side menu structure in the web application and setting up display parameters of menu items and objects, go to application dependencies setup.
