Data Labels

Data labels contain information on series or specific data points and make the chart easier to understand. Depending on the information to be selected in the chart, the user can add data labels for:

The following data label settings are available:

Font type.
Font size.
Font style.
Font color.
Label position.

Label text.

Use the Data Labels dialog box for advanced settings of data labels.

NOTE. Advanced settings determined in the desktop application are passed to the web application, except for data label border and fill settings.

Quick Setup of Series Data Labels

To set up data labels of points in the particular chart data series, use the Data Labels group on the Data Series side panel tab.

Make sure that the side panel is displayed.
Select the chart in the working area.
Select the Format radio button on the side panel and go to the Data Series tab.
Select the required data series.

To display data labels, select the Data Labels checkbox and determine the following settings:

Depending on the selected chart type the Position drop-down list enables the user to select various options of of data label position:

The Automatically and Center options are available for all series types.
The following options are available for a column and a sector: Inside End, Outside End, Inside Base.
The following options are available for a line, area and point: Right, Left, Top and Bottom.

Below is an example of displaying data labels for a histogram with different position settings (center, inside end, outside end and inside base respectively):

TIP. To quickly set up data labels position for the chart, click the Data Labels button in the View group of the Chart ribbon tab. Select label position option in the drop-down menu of the button. On selecting the Data Labels Settings option, in the web application the Data Labels tab is displayed on the side panel and in desktop application the Chart Parameters dialog box is opened on the Data Labels tab.

A custom text, template can be set for the label, or combination of both can be also used. To enter text and templates, use the Text box.

To add a template to the label text:

Click the Add Template button.
Select one of available text templates in the drop-down list.

The selected template will be pasted after cursor position.

Determine font settings:

Font type. In the drop-down list select one of the fonts available in the operating system.
Size. In the drop-down list select the required font size or enter it using the keyboard.
Font style. Click the buttons that determine the font style:

B. Bold.
I. Italic.
U. Underline.

When the font style button is pressed, the corresponding font style is used.

Font color. Select the required font color in the drop-down palette. To set a new font color, click the Spectrum button in the standard color palette and select a color in the advanced color palette.

NOTE. Label accuracy setup is available only in the web application and only for a specific data series.

To set up numeric values accuracy displaying in data labels, use the Accuracy box. By default, values are displayed within the accuracy of two decimal points.

TIP. To set up data labels for all series at once, use the Data Labels side panel tab. The tab appearance is the same as of the Data Labels group on the Data Series side panel tab. To display the Data Labels tab: make sure that side panel is displayed, select the chart in the working area, select the Format radio button on the side panel, go to the Data Labels tab and select the checkbox in the tab name.

Quick Setup of Level Line Data Labels

To set up level line labels, use the Labels group on the Level Lines side panel tab.

Make sure that the side panel is displayed.
Select the chart in the working area.
Select the Format radio button on the side panel and go to the Level Lines tab.

Determine font settings:

Font type. In the drop-down list select one of the fonts available in the operating system.
Size. In the drop-down list select the required font size or enter it using the keyboard.
Font style. Click the buttons that determine the font style:

B. Bold.
I. Italic.
U. Underline.

When the font style button is pressed, the corresponding font style is used.

Font color. Select the required font color in the drop-down palette. To set a new font color, click the Spectrum button in the standard color palette and select a color in the advanced color palette.

To edit or add a template to the label text:

Click the Add button next to the edit box.
Select one of the available level line label text templates in the drop-down list:

%Computation. The Function template is used as a level line label.
Depending on the selected label type the chart plot area will show the level line label as follows:

Constant.
<Function name>.

%Value. The Value template is used as a level line label.
