Getting Started with Security Manager

To open the security manager in the desktop application:

• Select the Tools > Security Manager main menu item. object navigator.

• Select the Programs > Foresight Analytics Platform 9.2 > Security Manager item in the Windows start menu.

After executing one of the operations the login dialog box opens:

NOTE. Dialog box appearance depends on the authentication type selected in the specified repository settings.

1. Select the required repository in the Repository list.

2. Enter user name and password into the appropriate boxes:

• If password or role authentication is used, enter user name and password to the appropriate boxes.

• If integrated domain authentication is selected, the User Name and Password boxes are unavailable. Domain name and password that are used to connect to the domain are also used to connect to the repository.

• If domain authentication is used, specify user name and domain in the Domain\User Name box in the following format: Domain\User Name. Enter user domain password in the Password box.

The dialog box is identical to the login dialog box on login to Foresight Analytics Platform. If user name and password were specified correctly, the main security manager dialog box opens.

To open the security manager in the web application:

1. Open the web application using supported browser.

2. Specify security manager web application URL in the address bar:

http://ppserver/fp_App_v9.2/app/adm.html?repo=PPRepository

Where:

• ppserver. Name of the workstation that hosts the web application.

• fp_App_v9.2. Name of the virtual directory that stores the web application.

• PPRepository. Identifier of the repository, to which the connection is established. If identifier is not entered, the repository specified in the PP.xml file opens.

The web application start page displays login dialog box that is similar that in the desktop application. Enter user name and password into the appropriate boxes. If credentials were entered correctly, the main window of the security manager opens.

• Main menu. It contains commands that are used to execute various operations of the security manager's active section.

NOTE. The context menu is available only in the desktop application.

• Side panel. It contains access permissions settings. The side panel is displayed depending on the Properties button state (Privilege Holders in the Privileges section) on the toolbar.

NOTE. The side panel is available only in the web application, in the desktop application the access permissions are set up using dialog boxes.

• Toolbar. It contains frequently used commands. The commands are grouped on different panels, for example, on displaying object discretionary access permissions, on filtering access protocol, and so on. Displaying of panels is set up by means of selecting or deselecting a checkbox in the toolbar's context menu.
  The toolbar is set up identically to toolbars in other Foresight Analytics Platform tools.

• Navigation panel. It contains security manager sections.

NOTE. For repository based on SQLite the Object Classes, Access Protocol sections are available.

• Working area. It is used to work with active section of the security manager.

• Status bar. It indicates working modes that are enabled or disabled by means of keyboard keys.

Security manager functions in the desktop and web applications differ. The difference is shown in the table, except for the full functions that are available in the desktop and web applications:

Conventions:

- function is fully available.

- function is not available.

- function is limited.

To connect a repository:

• In the desktop application:

• Select the Repository > Connect main menu item.

• Click the Connect Repository button on the toolbar.

• In the web application:

• Change repository identifier in the address bar.

After executing one of the operations the login dialog box opens.

To disconnect a repository:

• In the desktop application:

• Select the Repository > Disconnect main menu item.

• Click the Disconnect Repository button on the toolbar.

• In the web application:

• Close browser window.

After executing one of the operations the current repository connection session closes.

Displaying List of Connected Repositories

To display a list of all connected repositories, select the Window > Windows List main menu item:

NOTE. The list of security manager windows is available only in the desktop application.

To activate or close the selected repository:

• Click the Activate or Close button.

• Select the same context menu item.

After executing the operation:

• The selected repository is activated and the list of windows will be closed.

• The selected repository will be closed.

TIP. The multiple selection is available in the windows list, which enables to close simultaneously several repositories.
