Working with Time Series: Microsoft Excel Add-In

A time series is a combination of series observations characterized by the unique set of attributes values. Each observation included into the series is called a point of the series. It is characterized by the observation time, its value and a set of additional characteristics.

Operations with Time Series

To add a series to data table:

Double-click the series on the Series Tree panel.
Drag the series from the series tree to the data table.

NOTE. If the CTRL key is held down when dragging, the hierarchy is created for the series, the dragged series is dropped to.

The time series is added to the data table.

To add several series:

Select the required series in the Series Tree panel using the SHIFT or CTRL keys.
Drag the series from the series tree to the data table.

The time series are added to the data table.

To create a new series, click the Add Series button in the Data Series group on the Table ribbon tab. A new series without data is added to the table.

If the time series database contains several calendar levels, the dialog box opens where the user can set the frequency of the created series:

To select transformation method of series values:

Select the Apply Transformation checkbox on the Primary tab in the Series group of tabs on the side panel, and select the transformation method in the drop-down list.
Use the drop-down menu of the Show As button in the View group on the Table ribbon tab.

NOTE. On selecting the Other method the Transformation Editing dialog box opens that enables the user to set up additional transformation parameters.

Transformation results will be displayed in the current workbook. Calculated values are temporary and are not available for saving to the data source.

Select the Initial Value item if no transformation is required.

Series unbinding is resetting values of mandatory attributes and clearing of all the series data. After unbinding the series does not belong to a time series database and is similar to a new series.

To unbind the series selected in the data table, click the Unbind button in the Data Series group on the Table ribbon tab. A confirmation dialog box opens.

To delete the series selected in the data table, click the Delete button in the Data Series group on the Table ribbon tab. A confirmation dialog box opens.

Grouping enables the user to combine several series to a logical group.

To combine a group of series selected in the data table, click the Group button in the Data Series group on the Table ribbon tab. The selected series are grouped.
To rename the group, double-click its name. The name opens in the edit mode. Specify a new group name and click the ENTER key.

To ungroup the selected group into separate series, click Ungroup button in the Data Series group on the Table ribbon tab. The group is divided into source series.
