Calculator: Microsoft Excel Add-In

The Calculator dialog box opens that is used to create a formula for calculating a calculated series:

Set the parameters in the Calculation Period area:

Calculation Start. Set value of expression sample start:

Start of Data +/-. The date is equal to the first actual date of the input series plus the number of periods specified in the corresponding value editor.
Specific Date. Set calculation start date in the format "month year". The parameter depends on the calculated series.
Today +/-. Set the number of periods forward/backward. The shift is executed by the frequency of the calculated series.
From Sample Period End. Set the number of periods backward. The shift is executed by the frequency of the calculated series.

Sample End. Set the value of expression sample end:

Start of Data +/-. The date is equal to the first actual date of the input series plus the number of periods specified in the corresponding value editor.
End of Data +/-. The date is equal to the last actual date of the input series plus the number of periods specified in the corresponding value editor.
Specific Date. Set sample end date in the format "month year". The parameter depends on the calculated series.
Today +/-. Set the number of periods forward/backward. The shift is executed by the frequency of the calculated series.
From Calculation Start. Set the number of periods forward. The shift is executed by the frequency of the calculated series.

Calculation End. Set the value of forecasting period end:

Display Period End. The date is equal to the end date of the data table data display period.
Specific Date. Set calculation end date in the format "month year". The parameter depends on the calculated series.
End of Data +/-. The date is equal to the last actual date of the input series plus the number of periods specified in the corresponding value editor.
Today +/-. Set the number of periods forward/backward. The shift is executed by the frequency of the calculated series.
From Sample Period End. Set the number of periods forward. The shift is executed by the frequency of the calculated series.

Features of setting calculation period

If the From Sample Period End calculation start option is set, it is not available to set the From Calculation Start calculation end option.
If the Today +/- method is used, end of sample date and end of the forecast date shift to the calculation period end. Relevant for frequencies from monthly and higher.
For example, sample period end is April 2012, and calculation end period is equal to the sample period end. Thus, on series calculation the calculation end date is 30.04.2012.

Functions, arithmetic operations, numbers, equality signs, round brackets can be used on creating a calculation formula.

To insert a function to a formula:

Enter the required formula in the Formula area.
Use the IntelliSense technology:

Put the cursor to the Formula area.
Press CTRL + SPACE.

The list of available functions and data will be shown. The functions in the list are indicated with the f(x) icon. Click the function name in the list with the main mouse button.

The function is inserted into the cursor position.

Available categories of functions:

To insert data to a formula:

Double-click the required data element in the Series area.
Select the required data element in the Series area and click the Insert into Formula button.

Use the IntelliSense technology:

Put the cursor to the Formula area.
Press CTRL + SPACE.

The list of available data and functions will be shown. The data in the list is indicated with the icon. Click the data element in the list with the main mouse button.

The data is inserted into the cursor position.

To insert number to a formula:

Put the cursor to the required position.
Enter the required number using the keyboard.

The number is inserted next to the cursor position.

When working with numbers, the clipboard standard operations are also available: copy, wrap and paste.

Available operators:

Arithmetic operations: +, -, *, /, MOD, DIV.
Comparison characters: =, <>, >, <, >=, <=.
Logical: AND, OR, NOT.
Brackets: (, ).

Select the required frequency in the Calculated Series Frequency drop-down list. The list contains all available input series frequencies.

Set a formula calculation method:

Series. Default. The formula is calculated simultaneously for all data points.
Pointwise (Forward). Calculation is executed sequentially in each point of the series: first, the formula is calculated by the first point, then by the second point, and so on.
Pointwise (Backward). Calculation is executed sequentially in each point of the series: first, the formula is calculated by the last point, then by the last point but one, and so on.

If a formula is set correctly, clicking the OK button closes the calculator. A calculated series named Deterministic and containing calculation results is added to the data table. Children of this series are series included into calculation formula.

Setting Up Calculation Options

To set up calculation options, use the Parameters tab on the side panel. The tab contains the formula, by which the series is calculated.
