Working in Object Navigator

The object navigator enables the user to create any number of objects of any nesting level. This enables the user to determine repository structure that best meets his needs.

Predefined object types can be created. Custom object types can also be determined (for details see the Custom Metadata section). Wizards are used to create and edit most of the repository objects.

The following objects can be created in the web application:

Dashboard.
Express report.
Workbook.
Model.
Document.

To create an object:

Click the New Object button in the Create group on the Home ribbon tab.
To create a folder, click the New Folder button.
Select the Create > <Object Type> item in the context menu of the object navigator.

NOTE. This item is available only in the desktop application.

Further object creation depends on the object type.

NOTE. When the context menu is opened inside the container object, it contains only items to create objects available for this container.

To edit the selected repository object:

Click the Edit button in the Open group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Edit item in the repository object's context menu.

Press F4.

Further object editing depends on the object type.

NOTE. Editing is available not for all object types.

When the repository object is edited, its contents is automatically refreshed in all dependent objects.

Most of repository objects can be opened. For example, to open a table, you need to open data view window, to open a form, you should start it, and so on.

To open the selected object:

Select the Open item in the repository object's context menu.

NOTE. To open an object in the view mode in the web application, use the View command, to open a folder, use the Open command.

Double-click object name or icon.

NOTE. Double-clicking on the express report title or icon opens it in the edit mode.

Click the View button in the Open tab on the Home ribbon tab.

Opening of cube or time series database is opening of one of Prognoz Platform 9 reports, in which the specified cube or time series database is used as a data source.

To open a cube as a data source for express report and a time series database as data source for workbook:

Select the Open item in the context menu of cube or time series database.
Click the upper part of the Open button on the Home ribbon tab.

To open a cube or time series database using other tools:

Select the Open With item in the context menu of cube or time series database, and select the required tool in the drop-down menu.
Click the lower part of the Open button on the Home ribbon tab and select the required tool.

A cube can be opened with the following tools:

Analytical Queries (OLAP).
Reports.
Dashboards.

A time series database can be opened with the following tools:

Modeling and Forecasting.
Time Series Analysis.
Analytical Queries (OLAP).
Reports.
Dashboards.

If several data sources are selected in the object navigator, on opening via the Open With menu only the Analytical Queries (OLAP) item and Dashboard Designer item are available.

NOTE. Several objects can be opened simultaneously only in the desktop application.

To rename the selected object:

Click the Rename button in the Arrange group on the Home ribbon tab. The name edit mode is enabled for the selected object.
Select the Properties item in the repository object's context menu. In the dialog box on the Object Type tab enter a new name for the repository object.
Select the Rename context menu item.
Select the object and click once with the mouse.

Press F2.

After repository object's name is edited, its name is automatically refreshed in all dependent objects.

To delete the selected object:

Click the Delete button in the Arrange group on the Home ribbon tab.
Select the Delete item in the repository object's context menu.

Press CTRL + DELETE.

A confirmation dialog box opens.

NOTE. If on deleting repository objects are detected that depend on the deleted object or the deleted object is a default repository object , the message appears indicating that it is impossible to delete the object, and the object will not be deleted.

To select all objects in objects list:

Click the Select All button on the Home ribbon tab.
Press CTRL + A.

To deselect:

Click the Deselect All button, on the Home ribbon tab.
Click the empty area of the objects list with the main mouse button.

Refreshing the objects list is used to refresh repository contents.

To refresh the objects list:

Click the Refresh button on the Home ribbon tab.
Press F5.

NOTE. Commands for working with objects will be unavailable or limited if the required tool does not have a feature. Available operations with objects are determined depending on user permissions and privileges.
