Aggregation by Indicators

1. Make sure that the data table view is displayed.

2. Select the Aggregation by Indicators item in the drop-down menu of the Aggregation button on the Calculations ribbon tab.

To set the aggregation calculation period, use the Calculation Period group of parameters:

• Calculation Start. The method for calculating the starting point of the calculation. By default the Specific Date method is used, and starting point of the calculation matches the starting date of data display. The methods for calculating the start date of the calculation:

• Specific Date. The date is specified in the date editor at the right.

• Today +/-. The date is equal to the current date plus the number of periods specified in the value editor at the right.

• From Calculation End. The start date of the calculation equals to the end date of calculation plus the number of periods specified in the value editor at the right.

• Calculation End. Methods for calculating end point of calculation. By default the Specific Date method is used, and the end point of the calculation matches the end date of data display. Methods for calculating the end date of calculation:

• Specific Date. The date is specified in the date editor at the right.

• Today +/-. The date is equal to the current date plus the number of periods specified in the value editor at the right.

• From Calculation Start. The end date of the calculation equals to the start date of calculation plus the number of periods specified in the value editor at the right.

To set aggregation expression, use the Expression group of parameters:

• Dimension. The dimension, by which the aggregation should be performed. The drop-down list includes all database dimensions, except for the calendar dimension, measurement units, revisions and mnemonics.

• Value. Aggregation expression. Attribute names are specified in brackets, for example: {BCI}+{BCA}. All the available aggregation expressions are shown in the menu that opens on pressing CTRL + SPACE.

• Filter. Limitation on rows, on which aggregation will be performed. Working with the field is performed similar to working with the breadcrumb in the series tree.

• Frequency. Calendar frequency for aggregation calculation.

To set up aggregation calculation method, use the following parameters:

• Method. Select the aggregation method in the drop-down list.

• Weights. Specify the expression to calculate aggregation weights. The drop-down list is available when a method of weighted aggregation (for example, weighted sum) is selected. This list contains elements of the dimension selected in the Dimension field

• Ignore Series with Empty Weights. Selecting the checkbox determines whether the series with empty weights are ignored. If the series are ignored, aggregation calculation takes less time. By default, this checkbox is deselected and active, if a weighted aggregation method is used (for example, weighted sum).

• Level. Selecting the checkbox indicates whether to use the Level method that smoothes obtained data after the aggregation is calculated. Features of working with the checkbox:

• • The checkbox is available when the following methods or their "weighted" analogs are selected:

  • Weights.

  • Weighted geometric mean.

  • Number of observations.

  • Number of missing values.

  • Sum.

  • Average.

  • Median.

  • Mode.

  • Percentile.

  • Composition relevance.

  • The checkbox is selected automatically and dimmed, when the following methods or their "weighted" analogs are selected:

  • Percentage change average.

  • Log difference average.

  • Percentage change median.

To apply the Rebase function allowing to rebase data from one frequency to the other one, select the Rebase checkbox.

NOTE. The Rebase checkbox is available in the same cases that the Level checkbox that sets aggregation calculation method parameters.

Set additional rebase parameters:

• Frequency. Calendar frequency for calculating the Rebase function. It can be changed if aggregation calculation frequency differs from annual frequency.
  The Rebase function can be applied for annual frequency or for lower frequencies, but not lower than the frequency of the aggregation calculation frequency. For example, the quarterly frequency is used for aggregation calculation. Thus, only the following options are available in the Frequency drop-down list: Annual, Semi-annual and Quarterly.

• Base Period. Determines the period to calculate the Rebase function. The format of setting a period depends on the selected frequency. For example, if the Annual frequency is selected, only a year can be set, if the Semi-annual frequency should be selected, half-year and year should be set, and so on. If the Frequency box is not available in the Rebase group, the period format depends on the Frequency box in the Expression group.

To set aggregation relevance with taking into account missing data, use the Composition Relevance group of parameters:

• Threshold. Determines threshold value for calculation of aggregation relevance. Available values range: [0; 100]. If threshold value is 0, aggregation will be calculated without taking into account missing data. If threshold value is 100, every omission will be taken into account when calculating aggregation. If the value is greater than zero but less than 100, missing data is taken into account in accordance with selected threshold value.

• Comparator. Comparator unit for estimating aggregation relevance. It contains the list of elements for the dimension selected in the Dimension box on setting up aggregation expression.

Relevance is calculated as follows: if the sum of values of the Comparator element, divided by the sum of all values is less than the Threshold value, the aggregation is not calculated.

Total period is a period, on which all aggregated series have data. To calculate aggregation in the total period of data, select the Use of Total Period checkbox and set the following parameter:

• Minimum Number of Observations. The checkbox determines if the minimum number of observations is limited in the total period. By default the checkbox is deselected and there is no limit. If the checkbox is selected, the minimum number of observations must be specified in the corresponding value editor. By default the total period must contain at least three observations.

By default the Use of Total Period checkbox is deselected, and aggregation is calculated on the model period.

To calculate aggregation considering data hierarchy, select the Hierarchy Consideration checkbox and set the following parameters:

• Entire Hierarchy. Default. Aggregation is calculated by all hierarchy levels.

• First Level Only. Aggregation is calculated only one level down the hierarchy.

• Consider Source Element. By default the checkbox is deselected, and the source element is not considered in aggregation. If the checkbox is selected, the source element is considered in aggregation.

NOTE. All hierarchical dimensions are used on calculating the aggregation considering hierarchy.

By default the Hierarchy Consideration checkbox is deselected, and calculation is performed without considering hierarchy.
