Getting Started with Security Manager

To open the security manager in the web application, select the Security Manager item on the side panel in the object navigator. After executing the operation the security manager main window opens on a new browser tab.

To open the security manager in the desktop application, execute one of the operations:

• Open the object navigator and select the Tools > Security Manager main menu item. After this the security manager window opens.

• Select the item in the Windows main menu: Programs > Foresight Analytics Platform 10.9 > Security Manager (x64). After this the login dialog box opens:

NOTE. Login dialog box appearance depends on authentication type determined in settings of the specified repository.

To get started with the security manager:

1. Select the required repository in the Repository list.

2. Enter user name and password into the appropriate boxes:

• If password authentication is used, enter user name and password to the appropriate boxes.

• If integrated domain authentication is selected, the User Name and Password boxes are unavailable. Domain name and password that are used to connect to the domain are also used to connect to the repository.

• If domain authentication is used, specify user name and domain in the Domain\User Name box in the following format: Domain\User Name. Enter user domain password in the Password box.

The dialog box is identical to the login dialog box on login to Foresight Analytics Platform. If user name and password were specified correctly, the main security manager dialog box opens.

• Main menu. It contains commands that are used to execute various operations of the security manager's active section.

NOTE. The context menu is available only in the desktop application.

• Side panel. It contains access permissions settings. The side panel display depends on the Properties button state (Privilege Holders in the Privileges section) on the toolbar.

NOTE. The side panel is available only in the web application, in the desktop application access permissions are set up using dialog boxes.

• Toolbar. It contains frequently used commands. The commands are grouped on different panels, for example, on displaying object discretionary access permissions, on filtering access protocol, and so on. Displaying of panels is set up by means of selecting or deselecting a checkbox in the toolbar's context menu.
  The toolbar is set up identically to toolbars in other tools of Foresight Analytics Platform.

• Navigation panel. It contains security manager sections.

NOTE. For repository based on SQLite the following sections are available: Object Classes, Access Protocol.

• Working area. It is used to work with active section of the security manager.

• Status bar. It indicates working modes that are enabled or disabled by means of keyboard keys.

Security manager functions in the web application and in the desktop application differ. The difference is shown in the table, except for the full functionality that is available in the web and desktop applications:

Conventions:

- function is fully available.

- function is not available.

- function is limited.

To connect a repository:

• In the web application change repository identifier in the address bar.

• In the desktop application execute one of the operations:

• Select the Repository > Connect main menu item.

• Click the Connect Repository button on the toolbar.

After executing one of the operations the login dialog box opens.

To disconnect a repository:

• In the web application close the browser window.

• In the desktop application execute one of the operations:

• Select the Repository > Disconnect main menu item.

• Click the Disconnect Repository button on the toolbar.

After executing one of the operations the current repository connection session closes.

To display a list of connected repositories, select the Window > Windows List main menu item:

NOTE. The list of security manager windows is available only in the desktop application.

To activate or close the selected repository:

• Click the Activate or Close button.

• Select the same context menu item.

After executing the operation:

• The selected repository is activated and the list of windows will be closed.

• The selected repository will be closed.

TIP. The multiple selection is available in the list of windows, which enables to close simultaneously several repositories.
