Using Private Dimensions

Private dimensions are unique dimensions of data source that are belonging to only one data source on the report sheet.

NOTE. The use of private dimensions is available in the Analytical Queries (OLAP) tool.

Working with private dimensions is available only in the report created by several data sources.

For example, report data sources have one unique dimension which contains cube facts. After private dimensions are located in columns, the report will have strict data division by source:

To show or hide data source name in table, use the Structure and Parameters dialog box.

Click the Structure and Parameters button on the Data ribbon tab. Use the dialog box tab to select or deselect checkboxes next to the data sources, which names must be shown or hidden. As a result, data source names are shown or hidden in the table.

When working with private dimensions is executed, the Private Dimensions and Fixed Private Dimensions side panel tabs are used.

Working with private dimension elements is similar to working with elements of shared dimensions, except for features described below.

To move selected private dimension to fixed dimensions:

Click the button.
In the button drop-down menu select In the Fixed Privates.

The dimension will be fixed. The Fixed Private Dimensions tab used to work with the dimension is displayed. Work with this tab is the same as with the Private Dimensions tab.

NOTE. If aggregation option is not selected, after the dimension is fixed, only one dimension element selection is available.

To work with fixed private dimensions, go to the Fixed Private Dimensions tab.

To move selected fixed private dimension to private dimensions:

Click the button.
In the button drop-down menu select In Privates.

The dimension will be unfixed. To work with free private dimensions, use the Private Dimensions tab.

Composite dimension is a dimension consisting of the elements selected in private dimensions.

To create a composite dimension on the Private Dimension or Fixed Private Dimension side panel tab, select the As a Composite Dictionary checkbox.

Private dimensions as one composite dimension:

A composite dimension is a tree consisting of selected elements of private dimensions. Selection changing, searching and sorting are available for composite dimension.

To delete composite dimension, deselect the As a Composite Dimension checkbox.

The list of private dimensions is shown on the Private Dimensions or Fixed Private Dimensions side panel tab.

A private dimension can be created on the basis of shared dimension.

NOTE. This option is available if data sources contain a number of shared dimensions.

To create a private dimension on the basis of the shared dimension:

Click a button with the icon (, or ) at the left of the tab title.
In the button drop-down menu select the To Private Dimensions item.

The selected dimension is converted into a private one and moved to the Private Dimensions tab.

Generalization is excluding a shared dimension from private dimensions.

NOTE. This option is available if a shared dimension was converted into a private one.

To generalize dimensions:

Click a button with the icon (, or ) at the left of the Private Dimensions tab title.
In the button drop-down menu select To Private Dimensions item.

The dialog box with the dimensions list, which can be converted to shared ones, opens. For example:

Select the checkbox next to the dimension that should be moved and click the OK button.

To set layout order of private dimensions:

Drag the selected private dimension to the required position using Drag&Drop mechanism.
Use the private dimension items: Up, Down or Swap Places With.
