How to Set Up Integration with R?

The Modeling and Forecasting tool enables integration with the R package, extending tool's analytical features.

Solution

  1. Install the R package:

    1. Download the R installer from the site http://www.r-project.org/.

    2. Use the installer to install R.

    3. Download RServe binary files from the site http://www.rforge.net/Rserve/files/.

    4. Unpack RServe binary files to the folder S\bin\i386, where S is the R install folder. Make sure that the Rserve.exe, Rserve_d.exe, Rserve.dll files were copied.

NOTE. RServe must not be installed by means of the R interface because the required files will not be copied to installation folder.

    1. Start R.

    2. Select the Packages > Install Packages main menu item and install required R packages. If these packages are already downloaded to the workstation, they can be installed by selecting the Packages > Install Packages from Local ZIP-files main menu item. Detailed information about the packages required for R method calculation, is given in the Which Prognoz Platform 9 Methods can be Calculated Using R? section.

  1. Connect the R package to Prognoz Platform 9.

NOTE. This procedure is necessary if R is installed on the workstation different from the workstation, where Prognoz Platform 9 is installed.

    1. In the desktop application select the Tools > Parameters item in the object navigator, in the web application select the same main menu item of the Modeling and Forecasting unit. The parameters dialog box opens.

NOTE. The command is available in the web application if a model is opened in the working area.

    1. Go to the External Modules tab and specify the directory, where the R Package is installed. For example:

  1. Use R to calculate summary statistics.

NOTE. This step is optional and is available only in the web application.

    1. In the web application in the main menu of the Modeling and Forecasting tool select the Tools > Parameters item. The Parameters dialog box opens.
      The item is available if a model is opened in the working area.

    2. Go to the Calculation tab and select the Use R on Calculating Descriptive Statistics checkbox:

After these operations, R methods are available to use in the Modeling and Forecasting tool.
